Wrestling with the Unknowable

Nov 27, 2024 1:12 am

These are scary times and not the kind of scary that entertains. It’s been hard to continue with the usual social media posts and book-related news. But one thing that has always been a constant in my life is books; they’ve always been there to teach, inspire and provide an escape. I think fiction is a way to wrestle with the unknowable and we may very will need them more than ever before.

We've signed a deal for Colleen Anderson's poetry collection VELLUM LEAVES AND LETTERED SKINS for release in 2025. This lush garden of poems has been seeded in a fairytale realm but has grown in many directions. Poetry editor Stephanie Wytovich explains, “As someone who adores witchery and fairytales, I’m so excited to work with Colleen on this collection. I’ve admired her work for years, and I’m honored to collaborate with her and help make this book as magical and fierce as possible.”

If you're ready to rage this poetry collection by Brenda S. Tolian is for you. Order here.

The verses serve as a grimoire, an invocation, and a meditation on agency and autonomy over the body and soul—whether it is inherent, taken, sold, stolen, lost, reclaimed, or forcefully wrested back into the self. Sit down on the forest floor, dig your fingers into the soil, and open wide your bestial mouths, consume these words whispered in the darkness.
