Ramblings from the Desk of J. Morgyn White
Happy Almost New Year! I'm releasing Sorrel & Ranth’s story Demons For Breakfast in March 2026 and I have all the news —but you have to promise to keep a couple of secrets until I announce them officially? Deal? Awesome.
I loved commissioning character art for Too Cursed to Kiss, so for Demons for Breakfast I’ve gone a bit wild. Here’s a taste of what’s coming. The Cover is especially top secret. We’ll be showing it off officially on January 24th, so please don’t share until then.
The Demons for Breakfast Pitch
If he dies, she dies. And the demons are already circling.
Sorrel Redwood never asked to be San Francisco’s unofficial demon exterminator, but spirits tend to ignore boundaries when you can actually see them. Between making herbal charms and wrangling her cat Antimony, she’s managing—until a cursed bracelet and a beautiful, brooding wizard turn her world upside down. With lavender sunglasses, purple Doc Martens, and a Scooby-gang of savvy friends, Sorrel’s about to discover that love, like magic, never comes without a price.
Here’s the ARC Team form if you want to be a first reader!
Advanced Reading Copies will officially be coming in February but my ARC Team will get it first!
Limited Editions & Lux Boxes Coming!
Keep an eye on my New Etsy Shop because the Pre-Order lux boxes are going to be incredible and very limited. There will be exclusive grabs for pre-orders as well (retroactive) so I'll have that in my next newsletter. One of the cool things I had made are sticker sheets and an illustration for Sorrel's Book of Shadows - art by @Adele_dunant.art - there are seven stickers, a map, and three tassel bookmarks. The art cards I had printed are incredible. I can't wait to show you everything!
What's Next!
Valravyn is scheduled for 2026 and I’ll be working hard on it after the Demons for Breakfast campaign fully gets underway in January. More in my next letter.
Happy Writerly News!
In November, By Their Rules was selected as a Highly Commended Finalist in the prestigious Cheshire Novel Prize. There is a small excerpt and a short interview with me on their website.
What I'm Reading
A favorite surprise read this Fall was BlackWarden (fae - with a gothic setup - and a hunger games style sister taking the place of sister without the actual games) and Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber which had some interesting things I'm still thinking about (no spoilers). I’m currently reading Once and Future Queen by Paula Lafferty - an Arthurian retelling with time travel- and a surprise because I went in expecting not to love it.
What I'm Watching
Dangerous Liaisons lovers consider looking at The Seduction which is a quirky but interesting take on the classic with Lucas Bravo from Emily in Paris as the ‘villain’ (on HBO). I’m a huge fan of the Spanish romance Culpa series so the final installment Culpa Nuestra (on Prime) was a mandatory watch - but I think My Fault London (the English remake) was great and I’m anxiously awaiting #2. In Historical I loved Outrageous and am waiting on the next season (on BritBox through Prime).
All the Best Wishes for 2026,
Joanne
