November 2021
Hello from the writer’s desk.
The year started off wild, but turned out even wilder and now twisting to a glorious out of the park finish. My son is off at college on the other side of the country, we moved into a new temporary house, and my Mother is about to move into a new house as well.
Plus I have news! I am officially agented and represented! This fall, I signed with Trident Media Group, a New York Literary Agency for Plague House, my Gothic suspense novel. It’s now out on submission, which means that editors at New York Publishing houses are considering buying it—that is a surreal feeling. I’ll keep you posted on the progress.
While I wait to hear from editors, I began three new projects and a secret extra side project which I haven’t told anyone about yet— but I’ll whisper about it to you. Don't You Dare, is a romance where the heroine, a social media influencer crosses paths with a down to earth modern farmer who she takes down on Twitter, but he follows her, and replies an, and it blows up when he asks her out, because her followers want her to go and live tweet about the date.
That’s the candy project I will likely start writing before the end of the year. The exciting almost finished suspense I’ve written this month is called By Their Rules, inspired by the 1950s Ann Woodward murder in Long Island, NY, where a socialite kills her husband accidentally when she mistakes him for a burglar. It is also set in a Gold Coast house on the North Shore of Long Island. My fantasy project I started earlier this year, The Black Feather is almost complete and I'm also working on a brand new take on vampires (I hope) which should get rolling next month. Whew. That sounds like a lot of projects, but I really love to work on more than one at time.
Feeling the short days and colder temperatures invigorating as we draw 2021 to a close. Wishing you and your family all the very best and hoping the turn of the year brings us all joy, health, and love. I’ll leave you with a little excerpt from yet another in-progress project and my current bedside table book.
All the very best,
Joanne
What I'm Reading Right Now:
Mr. Malcolm's List - Suzanne Allain
The premise is great. Mr. Malcolm has a list of things he requires in his future bride. Julia has a plan to turn the tables on him by enlisting her friend to become his perfect choice, then whipping out her own list and finding him sorely lacking...
It has been made into a feature film due out the first quarter of 2022, but they Refinery29 did a short film version and that's available to watch now on YouTube as a teaser ;)

Serena (An Excerpt)
J. Morgyn White
It is a widely accepted idea that architecture connects us with the dead. The boundaries Kelterskel have framed the entirety of Serena’s formative years. Serena has never known what lies beyond and to be honest, she hasn’t really cared to find out.
With sturdy hands she has been pulled up from childhood across polished wood, brocade and velvet and crackled leather chairs. Nourished by pages and maps and the roar of the distant sea. She has grown to love the salt on her toast, and the rain in her tea.
Today Serena is twenty-one and the solitude ripples.
A victim of distraction by errant sunbeams streaming through dust rising from Persian rugs and woodpeckers hammering into the shingles of the ramshackle Nantucket house. She becomes the seagull hopping across the ill-tended rose garden until it moves beyond a bush and the fly on the windowpane until it finds the crack in the window. It goes, she stays behind.
But something has changed.
