CardFolio Presents:

Market Roundup #2 ☕️

There's always something happening in the Pokemon market with a lot of interesting sales. It has not been confirmed that these recent auctions have been paid for so we can't be for sure if these values are correct, but this does tell us a few things about the market that you've probably heard before:

Spotlight Sales:

Compared to the Jan 14th 2021 sale at $300K, this grail took a bit of a dip, but if you look closely at the card, you will see it is a VERY weak PSA 10.

Don't be fooled. Always remember: buy the card, NOT the grade 😉

Killer Stuff and Tons of Money

By Maureen Stanton

I just started reading this and so far it's been a wonderful read. Investing in antiques and collectibles has been around for a LONG time. A lot of the time, newcomers to Pokemon investing aren't aware of all of the lessons learned from antique investors. So if you are trying to learn from those who've come before you, this is a great book to start with.

Yes this is about video games, but it's something very important to be familiar with and aware of - manipulation in the markets happens and it's visible. Whether you solely collect Pokemon cards or if you venture into other collecting categories, people who know these markets well are in a prime position to manipulate it sophisticated or unsophisticated ways.

Remember the bike from Pokemon Red?

One piece of news that's been making rounds is the bike from Pokemon Red.

Why do we care? Welp, apparently you can own this bike now 😉

No you can't actually ride it but it is a one-of-a-kind replica from the game. The Pokemon Company is going to give all of us the chance to win the bike if you follow them on twitter and use their hashtag  "ポケモンの100万円じてんしゃ" (Pokemon one million yen bicycle) by August 3rd.

It's very cool and definitely nostalgic, so if you enter, good luck! And if you win, post pics 😊🚴‍♀️

Have you been playing Pokemon Unite?

The Pokemon League of Legends has been live for a while now and so far it's had a mixed reception. It is fun, downloadable for free and everyone is having fun except for the play to win aspect of the game.

Yes you can earn playable items but micro-transactions can tip the favor in ranked games for players, turning fun upside down for some.

As with anything, it costs to develop, host and maintain software so even though micro-transactions aren't always fun, it is a necessary part of being able to play the game.

Either way, there are still many ways to enjoy the game even if you may not be a serious ranked player.

It's worth the download so if you have a Switch, give it a go and see for yourself! I don't think you'll be disappointed. And a quick tip from a few hours of playing the game - level up fast by fighting the wild Pokemon on the map. Avoid fighting others players if you can, or at least don't stray too far away from the goal rings. If you're able to beat players early on in the game, it'll set you up to be much more powerful as the match goes on, so play it smart.
