In case you missed it - you've got a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card or some books.

If you want to skip my tale of not-covid woe and get onto the good stuff, jump down to the first picture for two author interviews and some book promos. Oh, and a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card. Btw…the winner from my September birthday paperback given away has now been contacted—Daniela C. If I don’t hear back, I’ll pick a new winner. Congratulations and happy reading!

It’s the day after Thanksgiving here in the good ole USA and for once people are not slamming into each other trying to grab the best deals on whatever it is stores have decided will cause the biggest stampede. Or maybe they are. I truly have no idea since I’m sitting at home recovering from a bout of pleurisy (an inflammation of the lining of the lung), plus I never do the Black Friday store dash. Throngs of people pushing and shoving—sometimes punching—to get a “deal” has never been my idea of a good time. But then I wasn’t born with the shopping gene.

I began feeling “off” on Sunday with a deeper, more pronounced cough than my usual “allergy” cough, a bit of brain fog, and some shortness of breath, but no fever. Uh Oh. By Monday evening, my left shoulder had the tell-tale signs of pleurisy. I’ve had it several times—the first over 3 decades ago while living in Chicago, where it hurt so bad I quite literally thought I was dying—so I know the signs. Sleeping that night was let’s just say less than restful. Every time I turned on my right side, my left lung screamed. I scheduled a telemedicine visit with my primary doctor after spending two hours in a fruitless search for a covid test. Based on symptoms, she confirmed what I already knew, prescribed medication and a covid test. Fortunately, she is part of the Mercy system and they have drive-up testing in the parking lot for their symptomatic patients.

When I arrive for my 6:30pm appointment, it is cold and raining. I begin to think of the nurses who must come out to each car multiple times and am overwhelmed with gratitude for everything they do. I wait, get my rapid test, and wait again. Yes, the test is uncomfortable, but not nearly as bad as I’d been led to believe. My rapid test is negative, so they swab again for the lab test. I have her swab the other nostril to balance out the weirdness—yes, I am a Libra…why do you ask? Then I go home to wait. A negative rapid test is only presumptively negative. I had already canceled our limited Thanksgiving feast plans for our tiny pod, so we ordered take-out for two.

It is now Friday and the meds are helping—coughing has greatly improved and it doesn’t hurt to laugh. My lab test was also negative—YIPPIE—but even that is considered “presumptive” if one has symptoms. I was already at home, but now I have to be, so even if I were a shopper, I would be shopping at home. I assume I will continue to improve and return to share more author interviews in the future.

I love doing author interviews, so have several lined up. Today I offer interviews with Women’s Fiction author, Diane M. How, to celebrate the release of book 2 in The Dahlonega Sisters, Veins of Gold, and Ken Lee, author of Voices from the Bible Vol One. Full disclosure—they are both editing clients, however I thoroughly loved both books. I hope you enjoy learning a bit about them.
