What's in store for 2023?

I know, I know, this post should have gone out in January. Like a proper resolution/declaration of self/life plan.

Despite me running a full month behind in the declaration department (isn't January funny?), I did want to talk a little about what I hope 2023 looks like for my writing life. I wanted you to know what to expect (and hopefully look forward to!!!)

And I've got to tell you, it looks a little...messy. Not, like, drug addict messy or anything. But like, hasn't done the dishes for a few days messy.

It looks like a person who does too many different types of projects and doesn't stick to one genre or niche. Because I just don't (can't?). I love writing women's fiction, and creative non-fiction, and fantasy/scifi. (And in case you're wondering, this type of genre-jumping is horrible for marketing, and all the pro indie writers advise against it.)

So, yeah, this year will have more of me doing what the pros advise against (and hopefully some things they think are great!)

As far as romance/women's fic goes, I know I have one book coming out, and it's even fully written. But From Snow probably won't come out until early November. Because it's a winter romance. I thought about getting it out for Valentine's Day, but it ends on a Christmas scene and has a Christmas-y cover and is just really marketed more for Christmas. So it shall wait until nearish to Christmas. (Note: If you're dying to read it, it's already up on Kindle Vella. Link HERE.)

I also have another idea for a book called From the Sky (with a pilot as the hero) but it's all in my brain right now, so it won't materialize until at least this summer (if it materializes then).

For non-fiction, I'm hoping to produce a little book about life lessons I've learned from teaching piano lessons. (Did I mention that I'm all over the darn place? I like it that way.)

In fantasy, the second book for The Determiner is coming along nicely. (It's also in progress on Kindle Vella if you want to get an early start reading it HERE.) Cover reveal coming soon (and it's soooo cool!) And this year should also bring us the third book. Fourth book is drafted out, and if I begin editing and realize it's amazing, it could come out this year too (but if I start editing and realize it's a hot mess, it will be early 2024).

I'm also working on a Hansel and Gretel dark YA fantasy retelling (dark for me, which only means dark-ish--some dark elements, but an overall happy ending). I am really really excited about this story.

And I am on the final-ish editing stages of a book that doesn't quite fit into any of these categories. It's a middle grade contemporary mystery with a found family. The working title is Broken Pieces. I love mysteries and they keep creeping into my writing (see From Gunpowder).

And I think that's it. Things that are definitely coming. Things that are in process. Things that are on my mind.

And hopefully, it's interesting to read this and not mercilessly boring.

P.S. If you're looking for some sweet romance in this sweet season of romance, I'm probably putting my romantic fiction up for $.99 next week.

Happy February!!!
