Having Fun, Derpy Family Pics, and a Recipe

I've been having a think about how I want to "do" these newsletters. I've decided that I want to send out one at the beginning of every month that is "just for fun." We'll see how well I do 'fun' (What? I'm fun! Look at me having fun!)

After the super fun email that you're about to consume, I'll just send updates with sales and stuff like that as they come up throughout the month.

Funness ensues...

So when my college kids were home for Christmas break, we decided to do a J.C. Penneys challenge, aka a TikTok/Internet trend (which is surely worn out by now) where we dressed and acted really derpy and got pictures taken at J.C. Penneys.

And, not to brag or anything, but we absolutely killed it at the dorky pictures. I mean, this might be our best talent as a family yet. Although we don't have the "awkward family photos" people quite beat, we are in the running. Like, if you could make a lot of money taking pictures where you look bad, we might have a viable business in the works.

(I think the photographer at Penneys had a lot of fun too!)

(Who wouldn't want this on their wall?)

While we all looked really great (and by great, I mean kinda dumb), I think my husband may have taken the cake. He grew his beard out the whole break so that he could create this masterpiece for this photo. #nailedit

Wow! Look how fun I can be.

As far as books go...

March Bookish Happenings:

Eville Con. March 15th-17th. Evansville, Indiana. I'll be there selling books! So if you're local come and see me (and all the other awesome vendors and cosplayers and general crazy-fun folk--you get to decide whether there's more crazy or more fun--that attend these events).

Kickstarter. That's right, I'm doing my first ever Kickstarter. It will be for my upper middle grade (which definitely overlaps with young YA) mystery. It'll have a pretty little hardback cover, and I'm really excited and really nervous. Don't worry--you'll definitely be getting that email when it goes up for prelaunch and then launches. For part of the Kickstarter, I'll be doing book boxes (a book in a pretty box with a bunch of cool stuff in it), so if fancy pants stuff is your jam, keep your eye out for that.

Promos and Sales this week:

As far as promotions and sales go, Draft 2 Digital is doing "Read An Ebook Week" where loads of ebooks are on sale. Including Grey Stone, Grey Lore, Grey Fall, and Four Seconds.

Recipe (Look how fun I am!):

Before the lion of March has staggered away, here's a delightful chocolate whipped cream for any remaining hot cocoa needs you may have. (And when it gets warm, it's just the thing for an ice cream sundae too.)

Enjoy!

1 C heavy whipping cream

3 Tbsp cocoa powder

1 Tbsp sugar (I used about 1 1/2 T because I was afraid)

chunky sea salt for sprinkling

Put the cold cream in a medium-large mixing bowl. Beat on high speed. As it begins to form bubbles, add the cocoa and sugar. Beat until stiff peaks form and it looks like whipped cream (don't go too long or you'll have chocolate butter, which come to think of it might be epic too).

After you top your hot chocolate, sprinkle a little sea salt and voila.
