Some thoughts on front identification...

In order to play fast, we have to keep things simple. In order to slow defenses down, we have to look complex. One area that helps us play fast is front identification. Speaking the same language helps our players and coaches to communicate effectively with one another, which is critical.

We look to identify fronts as one of the following four:

• Even Split
• Odd Split
• Even Stack
• Odd Stack

This is the first thing that we do when we come to the line of scrimmage and this is the common language that we speak when it comes to defensive fronts.
