But in Japan, there’s a whole intentional middle phase called aimai na kankei, which means “ambiguous relationship.” It’s a recognized step where you build chemistry slowly.


You hang out one-on-one, text every day, get emotionally close… and still aren’t officially dating until someone does a formal kokuhaku (confession).
