Have You Met The Man Of Many Names?

Dear , just when I thought I knew who I was, my colleagues, neighbours, and church community have given me multiple identities.

At work, I'm the esteemed Professor Jaachi. At home, I'm just plain old Stephen or Pastor, depending on who you ask. Let me dedicate this sentence to people around my office area who call me Doc. Because I work in a health firm? I'm just the editor, guys!

Early January, I was walking down the road to work when this stranger walked up to me and said: "Working there doesn't fit you. You should be a lecturer or professor." He walked away instantly. I shrugged and walked on.

Curious to know why colleagues call me Prof, I asked one, and she said it's because I'm always reading books, wear a Soyinka-ish hairstyle, speak big big English, and corrects their grammar. But, an editor suppose sabi oyinbo man langwej nau.

Things got really interesting when I started going to church. I was introduced as Maazi Jaachị Anyatọnwụ, a poet. Now, a few weeks later, everyone is calling me Pastor Jaachị. I must have missed the memo on the ordination ceremony!

But seriously, I'm starting to wonder if I have some sort of split personality disorder or if I'm just that good at adapting to different environments.

Maybe I'm just a natural-born leader, or maybe I'm just really good at faking it till I make it. Or maybe I should just start introducing myself as "The Man of Many Names."

Either way, I'm going to keep enjoying my evolving personas, and riding this wave of multiple identities and see where it takes me. Who knows, maybe I'll be the next James Bond or Beyoncé's backup dancer. The possibilities are endless!

Does this look like you? Reply this email. I'd love to read your thoughts.

With ❤️,

Pastor, Professor, Poet, Dr. Jaachị Anyatọnwụ
