She hates black people (Oops!)
Apr 10, 2026 2:25 am
Imagine this, a 5-year-old shouted:
I hate black people. They look SOOOO dirty!!!
------
Unfortunately, it's not a made-up situation. It literally happened.
How would you respond?
The child's parents were there. But they just said, "You can't say those words."
And nope, no education, no follow-up, no nothing.
But you know it's SUPER WRONG, and it's wild that the parents didn't do anything.
Here's how I would say:
Son/Girl, come here.
I don’t know where you got that from.
But what you just said did not sit well with me, and probably everyone in the room. I love that you value hygiene. I agree that's very important.
But there's something you should know: it’s not okay to judge people from the way they look, especially their skin colour.
First, Africa is a BEAUTIFUL continent. All the amazing zebras, giraffes and lions live there. They have loads of sunshine to keep them happy. So people naturally have darker skin to protect them from the sun.
White people live on a much darker continent. So they need lighter skin to absorb sunlight better.
Skin colour has nothing to do with the hygiene thing you believed. It's just how the world works. And it is wrong to say those hurtful words. I’m sure your parents can tell you more about that. But you do need to apologise for what you just said.

You might think - oh, that might offend the "parents".
My thoughts?
Yes, but I will still say those words unapologetically.
It's not my loss if they are so 2000 and late and stuck in this stone-age thinking.
I am happy to see them leave my social circle.
Here's the thing - we do not need to please everyone.
We just need to handle ugly situations with class.
