So what is this week's top Irish poem?

Well, this week, because I am writing this newsletter on Friday the 13th and I have been reviewing poems for so many years now, I decided to write my own short poem about Friday the 13th. I hope you enjoy it. And if you are unsure, the word Snucky means sneaky but not quite sneaky. I know it is not technically an Irish poem, but if you are interested in reading one today, you can read one of my 90+ Irish poems on this list here.

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th, a day of fear
A day when superstitions are near
Black cats cross our path with a hiss
And ladders are avoided with a twist

The number thirteen deemed unlucky
A day to stay home, some folks are snucky
But for those who dare to venture out
Their fate, a fate of doubt

Some say it’s a day of bad luck
Others say it’s just a day, nothing much
But whether you believe in the myths
Friday the 13th, a day of tricks

So lock your doors, cross your feet
And hope that this Friday the 13th is sweet
For those who believe in the signs
A day of luck, they may find.

Irish Joke:

Irish Jokes Paddy’s wife is deaf:

Paddy feared his wife Mary wasn’t hearing as well as she used to and thought she might need a hearing aid. Not quite sure how to approach her, he called the family doctor to discuss the problem.

The doctor told him there is a simple, informal test that paddy could perform to give the doctor a better idea about her hearing loss. Here’s what you do said the doctor; stand about 40 feet away from her and, in a normal conversational speaking tone, see if she hears you.

If not, go to 30 feet away and then 20 feet and so on, until you get a response. Later that day, when Paddy gets home from the pub, he sees Mary in the kitchen cooking dinner, and he was in the hallway; he thinks to himself I’m about 40 feet away. Let’s see what happens. In a normal tone, he asks, “Mary what’s for dinner, my lovely?” No response so he moves closer 30 feet he says,” Mary, what’s for feckin dinner ?”. Still no response.

He moves closer by about 20 feet. “Mary, for Christ’s sake can ye be telling me what’s for dinner ?” Still nothing, and again at 10 feet, still nothing. So he walks up behind her and says Mary, can you tell me what’s for dinner?

She replied,

FOR F*** SAKE PADDY FOR THE FIFTH TIME CHICKEN!!!

About the founder of Irish Around The World:

Okay, some of you might be wondering.

Just who runs this Irish Around The World website??

Or maybe you don't care, haha.

My name is Stephen Palmer from Co. Cork, and I have been involved in many Irish-related projects over the years.

While it may seem this website is run by a whole team of highly skilled Irishmen, it is just run by myself.

So I want to thank you again for taking the time to subscribe and participate in the community.

So how did you start a website about Irish people around the world Stephen?

image

Where it all began:

I created a website in 2013 to help Irish people who are moving to Australia and later sought to connect Irish people around the world. Which leads to the blog and email you are currently reading.

I have always enjoyed reading about Irish heritage and how connected Irish people are around the world. But I felt that the websites did not connect the people to the information. Instead, they just published daily articles regardless of whether people cared about them or not. So I decided to change it and create my own Facebook community called Irish Around The World. It expanded to an Irish Around The World group, now with over 70k members!

Thank you again for being a part of Irish Around The World.

Have a great day!

All the best,

Stephen Palmer
