The Father of Modern HR Dave Ulrich joins us Geeks Geezers and Googlization LIVE, today at noon EDT

Mar 21, 2023 1:43 pm

Hi ,

Can you believe this past weekend of March Madness? All bets are off - every bracket is busted! Special condolences go out to my Geeks Geezers and Googlization co-host Jason Cochran who is mourning the historic collapse of his beloved Purdue! For those following trends, two years in a row a small New Jersey college knocked off Purdue’s quest for the Final Four.

These upsets and surprises don’t just happen on the court. Unexpected disruptions and surprises occur every day in the Never Normal future of work. And we’ve been highlighting a few of those events in our own version of March Madness on Geeks Geezers and Googlization.

By far the most recent darling of our Never Normal post-pandemic era has been the ongoing controversy over remote work. But catapulting onto the scene in November 2022 has been the surprise mainstreaming of artificial intelligence and machine learning, personified by the rocketship rise of ChatGPT. Like the unpredicted global lockdown response to COVID19, this AI language model has once again proven that there is no pause button for exponential change. In just 5 months, it transformed the way we work and interact with technology and we've only started writing this next chapter.

Well, our very own Geeks Geezers and Googlization Show version of March Madness continues this week when Dave Ulrich, the Father of Modern HR, returns to the GGG stage to share his groundbreaking Human Capability Framework to help business leaders and HR make informed choices about redefining human capability.

#ICYMI

In case you missed our lead off the GGG March Madness episodes earlier this month, you’re in luck.

The video replays are available on YouTube and the audio version can be accessed on your favorite podcast channels including Apple and Spotify.

We lead off the month with an incredible conversation focused on a modern version of David vs Goliath, or Remote Work vs. Back to the Office.

Beginning three years ago this month, millions of employees around the world shifted to remote work. Well, it seems quite a few business leaders are trying to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Not everyone believes in the effectiveness of remote work, and some are learning that creating a hybrid culture proves to be more challenging than they anticipated.

To explore the future of work, recruitment, and retention of talent in this new landscape, we hosted a fascinating webinar featuring three leading experts in the field: Kate Lister, Jeff Abbott, and Gad Levanon. The panel delved into the challenges of building a strong company culture when teams work remotely and what team building looks like in this new environment. It was an unmissable opportunity for Googlization Nation to gain valuable insights into the remote work revolution from these top experts in the field.

Not to be outdone, John Sanei, a globally acclaimed futures strategist, lived up to all the hype and excitement of a buzzer beater just a few days later.! It was a conversation we didn’t want to end.

Sanei described our brains as "familiarity machines," which makes adapting to change difficult, even when we know it's essential for our survival. In a rather razzle-dazzle performance, he revealed that it is not artificial intelligence (AI) that causes people to panic and fear losing their jobs to a robot. Rather, it’s our human inability to develop new skills fast enough using current approaches to education and training. He shared with us a historical perspective about the evolution of our approach to work starting with the importance of physical quotient (PQ) in pre-industrial times, then intelligence quotient (IQ), and more recently, emotional quotient (EQ). In today's world, with the rise of AI and automation, a new skill has emerged as critical for success in the workplace - adaptability quotient (AQ).

You really must watch or listen to the replay!
