🗞️ NEWS

California Introduces Psilocybin Research Bill for Veterans & First Responders

Exciting news for the future of psychedelic medicine in California—SB-751, a newly introduced bill, aims to launch a Veterans and First Responders Research Pilot Program to explore the therapeutic potential of psilocybin for PTSD, end-of-life distress, and other mental health conditions.

If passed, the program would allow up to five counties to conduct state-regulated psilocybin research in partnership with the University of California system and local mental health providers. The goal? To develop safe, evidence-based protocols that could pave the way for broader access to psychedelic-assisted therapy for those who have dedicated their lives to helping others.

Arizona Advances Ibogaine Research Bill for PTSD & Brain Health

Last week, the Arizona House Appropriations Committee passed House Bill 2871, moving the state closer to funding ibogaine research for traumatic brain injury (TBI), PTSD, and neurological diseases. If passed, the bill would allocate $10 million to studying ibogaine’s potential in treating TBI, PTSD, opioid addiction, treatment-resistant depression, and even Alzheimer’s. Great job, Arizona!

Former U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema spoke in favor of the bill, calling ibogaine’s effects “extraordinary.” With rapid movement through committees since last month's introduction, the bill now heads to the full Arizona House for a vote.

Suicide Awareness Walk

On Saturday, May 17, Innerbloom will join thousands across the country to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in its mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide. We are honored to take part in the Out of the Darkness campus walk at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, an event dedicated to raising awareness and fostering community support. This meaningful initiative was introduced to us by Knowing You Matter (KYM), a local nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention, awareness, and mental health advocacy. We invite you to walk alongside us and stand in solidarity for this vital cause.

New Study Highlights Ketamine’s Potential for Treatment-Resistant OCD

A recent study in the Journal of Psychopharmacology provides promising insights into the potential of ketamine for individuals with severe obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who have not responded to typical treatments. Researchers in New Zealand discovered that a ketamine injection resulted in a quick and substantial decrease in obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors compared to an active control medication. Remarkably, 60% of participants exhibited a positive response to the lower dose of ketamine.

Ketamine vs. ECT for Treatment-Resistant Depression

An analysis of the ELEKT-D trial examined how ketamine compares to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for treatment-resistant depression. The study found that outpatients and those with less severe symptoms experienced greater improvement with ketamine, while inpatients with more severe symptoms initially responded better to ECT, though both treatments had comparable outcomes by the end of therapy. Notably, the study found that a higher body mass index (BMI), linked to obesity, was associated with an increased chance of remission when treated with ketamine.

🌱 L-theanine for Calmness

In a previous post, I discussed some of my go-to supplements for mental health. Recently, I’ve added a new one to my daily routine: L-theanine. Naturally found in green tea, L-theanine is known for its non-drowsy, calming effects. It’s been a game changer for me during bouts of anxiety or when I need to quiet a racing mind. Of course, always check with your doctor before trying it yourself, but I personally find that 200mg is noticeably helpful! Find it on Amazon!

🎵 New Music

I'm really enjoying Maribou State's new album, 'Hallucinating Love.' It has a joyful spring vibe. Despite its title, I assure you it's not psychedelic at all! :)
