December 2025
As we enter the new year, this newsletter reflects on three key themes from 2025: growth at Innerbloom, expanded access to ketamine-based care, and emerging clinical and practical insights into what truly supports mental health in our San Luis Obispo community.
Top Three Major Updates from Innerbloom This Year
1. A New Clinic Space
Last month, Innerbloom moved into a larger, upgraded clinic space—allowing us to better serve our patients with improved comfort, privacy and appointment options. We’re excited to share photos of our new space!
2. Offering Insurance-Covered Spravato®
Earlier this year, Innerbloom began offering insurance-covered Spravato®, expanding access for patients who previously could not afford ketamine infusion therapy. While the process does involve a few additional steps—such as a referral from a psychiatrist and a formal diagnosis of treatment-resistant depression—it is well worth it if it opens the door for more patients to receive care through insurance coverage.
3. The Launch of Our Mental Health Supplement
We proudly launched Newy, our very own supplement line designed to support brain and mood health. Newy was created to extend the Innerbloom philosophy beyond the clinic—empowering patients to support their mental health through nutrition and targeted supplementation.
Just two months after launch, a number of Innerbloom patients who began using Newy have already experienced noticeable benefits firsthand. The response has been so encouraging that we’re already brainstorming our second product—perhaps something to support sleep? I certainly could use more of that!
Top Three Developments in Ketamine Therapy in 2025
1. Stronger Clinical Evidence and Support
In 2025, ketamine therapy has transitioned from an emerging or “alternative” intervention to a standardized, evidence-based treatment. This shift has been guided by robust clinical trials and an expanding body of long-term safety and outcomes data.
As a result, confidence in ketamine therapy has grown among referring providers and patients. Locally, this has been reflected in increased referrals to Innerbloom from primary care providers and psychiatrists who have seen firsthand the meaningful improvements their patients experience.
2. Broader Access Through Insurance-Covered Esketamine
Access to ketamine-based treatments continued to improve in 2025, driven in large part by the broader adoption of insurance-covered esketamine (Spravato®) nasal spray.
This expansion significantly reduced barriers for individuals with severe, treatment-resistant mental health conditions, while preserving the importance of careful medical oversight, structured monitoring, and individualized treatment planning.
3. New Understanding of Ketamine’s Impact Beyond Depression
In 2025, growing research and clinical experience highlighted that ketamine therapy may benefit patients beyond depression alone. Emerging studies, including research reported by the University of Florida, suggest that medically supervised ketamine can support symptom relief and emotional processing in individuals with PTSD—offering new hope for conditions that often resist traditional treatments.
We have observed this at Innerbloom with patients time and time again, many of whom have experienced significant reductions in severe PTSD symptoms despite their primary indication for treatment being depression.
Top Three Health-Related Tips
1. Regulate the Nervous System First
Rather than starting with mindset or self-talk (such as “be less anxious”), it can be more effective to begin by calming the nervous system through a bottom-up approach—starting with the body. This includes prioritizing consistent sleep, daily movement, breathwork, and reducing overstimulation. When the body feels safer, emotional stability tends to follow more naturally.
2. Use Structure as a Form of Support
Simple routines around exercise, nutrition, and daily schedules help reduce decision fatigue and mental overload. Structure creates predictability and stability, especially during periods of stress. The goal isn’t rigidity or restriction, but rather a flexible framework that fosters steadiness and resilience—making it easier to show up fully each day and hold yourself accountable.
3. Be Intentional During Periods of Neuroplasticity
During periods of heightened brain plasticity—such as talk therapy, ketamine treatment, or major life transitions—it is especially important to be deliberate about what is taken in. Practices like therapy, music, journaling, time in nature, and meaningful connection are not optional extras; they are essential. When periods of neuroplasticity are guided with intention, positive change is more likely to be lasting and meaningful.

About Newy
A supplement formulated by Dr. Rivas for enhanced brain and mood support. The formula pairs especially well with ketamine therapy by helping extend and enhance the neuroplasticity effects. That said, the ingredients are equally effective on their own, so it’s a supportive option whether or not someone is undergoing ketamine treatment.
