Good evening, SHRNA friends,

Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the June 30 General Meeting. It was a productive time, and it was a positive thing to have our City Councilman Mario Bravo present to hear about some of our neighborhood’s challenges and needs. We will keep you posted as things develop.

On the subject of fun, the following information came through from the City of San Antonio Parks & Recreation Department. You might find helpful, particularly this Fourth of July weekend.

Outdoor Pool Season

As of July 3, 19 pools are open across various days of the week, 13 being open on weekends. The remaining pools will open immediately as lifeguards become available and cleared to work. Outdoor pools offerings will exist every day of the week and access will increase to maximize the swim opportunity as the number of lifeguards increases.

For the current pool schedule visit the following URL:

Close collaboration with Human Resources has occurred to improve the hiring process for aquatic positions and implement new key initiatives to increase pool staffing. These actions include a hiring incentive; paid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification training; and streamlined application and processing efforts.

Aquatics Events

The San Antonio Parks Department Aquatics Team has created some special events (flyers included below):

  • Wibit of Fun Days with jumbo pool inflatables at Fairchild Park Pool on July 2, Woodlawn Lake Park Pool on July 16, and Normoyle Park Pool on July 30.

  • Movies in the Pool featuring the film Luca on July 9 at the Kingsborough Pool (Registration required)

Other up-coming events include:

  • BVD Park (Berkley V. and Vincent M. Dawson Park adjacent to the Hays Street Bridge) – Movie in the Park: July 15th

  • Baseball Skills Challenge – July 16th at Lincoln Park

Parks events can be found line at the following URL:

We hope you have a fun and restful Fourth of July weekend and a summer filled with fun and good cheer.
