A player recently asked me:
"I'm watching the film, but how do I actually use it in my game?"
He could describe a shooter's preparation before the catch. The next step was understanding when that preparation would help him-and how to practise it.
It is a useful question for anyone involved in player development:
What changes on court because of the work we do off it?
Whether the focus is a young player's decision-making or a professional's role within a team, development needs a clear connection between observation, practice and competition.
