Welcome to the February 6th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story of My Week
During the week, I got to sit in at a virtual meeting of international multimillionaire investors.
It’s essentially a weekly meeting where they get to review different investment proposals.
Not all the members of the group are multimillionaires. Some of them are invited in more for the additional skills rather than the investment capital they will put into deals.
The guy who started the group was candid in explaining the whole setup.
Because of his level of success, he and his fellow multimillionaires get presented with a lot more investment opportunities than he or them has the bandwidth to do detailed due diligence on.
This is where some of the other people with more time than money come in.
They can invest more of their time to study the proposals. Eventually, everyone gets an equal opportunity to invest in the opportunity.
These range from real estate deals and venture capital deals in varying industries and countries.
I smiled when I realized the candor he used to explain the situation.
People are not under obligation to invest. Some join the group for the experience of learning.
I learned from the experience I got to attend that meeting.
I picked up lessons I’ll be putting into my own world to make me better.
Things I Learnt
1-Learning From a Life: My wife and I got to have brunch with a missionary couple.
They have been missionaries for about 3 decades. We became friends by chance.
A few years back, they had sat behind us in church and we introduced ourselves to each other during the service.
Little by little, a friendship formed.
This was the first time we were meeting with them as a couple. In the past, we had meetups with either husbands or wives alone. Just organic stuff happening.
During our brunch, we had conversations on different areas - parenting, marriage, life transitions, faith, church, and a few social issues.
The biggest thing for my wife and me was the opportunity to learn from their lives.
They were open with us. They even shared with us a part of their lives they were struggling with which they just continue to let go into God’s hands. The wife even shed a few tears as they spoke about it.
One thing was clear, they are in the season of life that they wanted to pour into people. And we are in a season of life that we want to learn from people like these.
It’s a joy to learn from lives like these.
The wealth of Christian experience from lives lived faithfully comes with lessons to live by.
We got these and more during the brunch.
They were a blessing to be with
2-Risk More to Make Yourself Better: Early this year, I made a significant investment in my personal and spiritual growth.
This is the largest personal investment I have ever made in any program which does not come with an academic certification.
I must say, it’s paying off in boatloads.
This training has added to the expanding worldview I was building up towards the end of last year.
This is the first time that I’m part of a training that aligns personal, spiritual, and service goals together.
The program is meant to run for a year, three weeks into it and I am already getting my money's worth.
I got introduced to the guy running the program in December by a friend & mentor. About 3 weeks later, I am signing up for his program.
It cost a pretty penny but he proposed a payment plan that made it work.
The whole thing reminds me of the age-long advice - sometimes you have to be ready to pay more to learn more so you can live at the next level of responsibility.
I have also had the opportunity to meet people in different parts of the world at the stages of the journey I'm on.
Together we are making progress.
Becoming better.
And serving Jesus more.
Postscript
May you always be encouraged by this truth "GOD IS WORKING AND HE HAS NOT FORGOTTEN YOU". Amen.
