Welcome to the August 1st edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story of My Week
COVID came knocking this week.
One of the staff in the office was diagnosed to be COVID positive. Fortunately, he is doing ok.
I had the most contact with him - a 15-minute drive in an airconditioned car. So, I had to go and do a test too.
Everybody is doing ok.
He is still in isolation and comes out on Tuesday to do a fresh test to confirm that it is out of his system.
I am grateful to God.
One thing I do is pray for the safety and health of all members of my team and their families.
I remember that God blessed the household of Potiphar because of Joseph.
And that is what I want God to do.
Because they are connected to me. I want God to protect their health and that of their families.
If even they don't believe in Jesus.
It's an opportunity for a seed of Abraham to bring the blessing of Abraham to them.
For this time and season.
Things I Learnt
1-Trusting in Small Victories: This week was pretty intense for me at work.
I am chasing some funding for the business and the delays in affecting what we can do in the business.
Last Sunday evening as I was watching TV, I felt that God was calling my attention.
I didn't stop watching immediately.
Yes, I confess I am not always great at dropping everything and say like Samuel "speak for your servant is listening".
When I listened, He said we would have the necessary funds to make the payments we needed to make for the week.
One week later, we didn't fund all we wanted but we did fund all we needed to.
I am forcing myself to be grateful. This is in part because there was one particular item, I wanted to fund last which we didn't fund.
I pause as I write this to say a quick "thank you" to God.
God kept His word.
And I pray that He comes through in this new week.
I am going into this new week and praying that all the funding plans come through for the business.
God of the small victories is still the faithful God.
2-When God's Family goes to Sleep: I recently started getting active on social media - Facebook and Instagram.
Someone I don't know "liked" one of my posts. For some strange reason, out of all the "likes", I decided to check the account out.
I noticed that she was pretty direct in her posts to highlight the gospel and the bible. By the way, she has over 11,000 followers.
I had some time on my hands and went back into her older posts.
I realized she didn't start doing that until a couple of months back.
She was posted a video in May 2021, explaining that she wanted to focus on the only thing that changes - the gospel. Instead of talking about politics, like she had done in the past.
This got me interested in following her transition.
In April 2021, she came out to talk about how God had convicted her about what she was posting in the past.
According to her, she used to post sexy booty pics, pix in bikinis, and sexy pics (her words not mine).
During that time, she was a member of a church - a team leader. And folks from the church followed her Instagram.
No one in Church told her that these sort of pictures does not honor the type of woman that God expects her to represent. She didn't get that sort of accountability.
It wasn't until she met her husband and they had dated for a month. He dropped out of the relationship when he saw the aforementioned pictures.
She felt offended but she said she had been waiting for it. This was her wake-up call. She said she felt embarrassed but it attracted her to her husband even more.
At the back of her mind, she said she knew it was wrong and was wondering all the while "should I be posting this?"
She said she fell for the addiction of the "likes" and responses on social media of such pictures.
She writes under the video "Also, I need to clarify: I’m well aware that I’m a grown woman who is accountable for her own actions; I’m not blaming anyone for what I did/posted."
"What I AM saying is that the leadership in any church should be involved in the individual’s lives who are a part of the congregation. Especially those who have been attending AND serving regularly & faithfully for over a year (I was there for 3 & even leading). They should not only teach them the Word, but test their spirit, help them mature in the Lord, & hold them accountable when they are falling off the narrow path. This is what the church in the Bible did and calls us to do as well."
"Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying to NOT get pretty & dress cute. That’s not what I’m saying! But many of us (including men) have gotten sucked in to believing we need to show body parts in order to feel beautiful in what we wear, or pose a sexy way to get likes"
She makes an interesting point. How we as a family of God need to watch out for each other.
And that means helping each live out the testimony of Jesus through our lives.
Postscript
May you find the courage to pursue intimacy with God and live out everything He teaches you even when it's different from how the rest of the world is living. May your different lifestyle bring glory to God. Amen
