Welcome to the December 20th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story Of My Week
One of the things which this whole COVID season has reminded us of is the need to be unselfish in our prayers.
As I pray for my kid when he goes to school, I also pray for his classmates and their families.
If anyone of them gets infected, it could mean that classes will be suspended and the children will have to remain at home. It could also mean that the parents may need to stay off work.
Did I also mention that I also pray for my colleagues at work too?
It's the same cause-and-effect. I pray for them because of the impact they will also have on me.
In an era where we have always looked at things first from how we benefit most, this is an "awakener"
I guess I am learning more about what it means to be salt and light in the places that I live in.
Things I Learnt
1-More Than Numbers: I recently re-learnt the importance of valuing the message more than the numbers.
Over time, I focus my attention on the number of subscribers I have on the list. But I decided to revisit something that may be lost in the whole numbers game.
It's the number of people that engage with the message I share.
Yes, I may have the numbers. But if some of the numbers are just numbers, not people who are listening to the message?
By looking at the message, I decided to take off people who have not opened my emails for over 90 days. I initially was going to do 30 days but I realised that things happen in 1 month that may take people's attention from their emails.
Following that, I recommitted myself to serving the people who engage with the message better. They invest their time which they must get value for.
I pray that every time you open my emails, you find something that helps you become more of the person God wants you to be
2-God Cares for Little Matters: God finds ways to remind me that He is concerned about little matters of my life - which I don't even say a prayer over.
I got a reminder this week.
I was traveling home after some work-related trip. For my luggage, I had 3 bags. It wasn't going to be a short hustle bringing them back from the airport home.
My flight has a 3 1/2 hour stopover which was more than adequate for my connection.
The only problem was that my first flight got delayed and we didn't take off until almost 4 hours afterward.
We landed about 40 minutes before my connecting flight - which was a miracle. The fewer than usual passengers at the airport due to COVID helped me cross the immigration and security check-in less-than-normal time.
I got on the plane as probably the last passenger just before they closed the doors.
I was on the plane but my luggage did not cross the transition as fast as I did. The airline said they would put it on the next flight later in the day. And they would also be bringing to my apartment - same day.
This whole arrangement gave me the convenience of getting home from the airport luggage-free and run some errands along the way.
By doing the errands on my way home, I got to spend the next day at home with my family without having to go out.
It was a good re-connection after my time away from home due to work.
I didn't ask for it but God stepped Him to make all these work out quite nicely for me and the family.
God is more concerned about me than I could be concerned for me.
And He is concerned about the little stuff.
Postscript
May you see God show up for you in a way which reminds you that He cares about the little stuff even when you don't pray about them. Amen
Tata,
Tola
