Faith & Life Lessons - July 9, 2023

image

Welcome to the July 9th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

This was a busy week for me.

Aside from work and family demands, I am also running a 31-day career accelerator for value-driven professionals.

Later in the week, I got an invitation to speak at the House of Saviours event. This was the second of being invited.

The first invite was one I couldn't make because I was travelling with the family.

So, I added this one to my schedule to honour the invitation and the people that form part of the network.

House of Saviours is a network of people across the world focused on creating solutions in the areas they find themselves. Nope, it’s not a faith-based organisation.

The feedback was that the audience was empowered by listening to me

That's what I like to hear.

It's also the reason I am doing the 31-day accelerator.

Committing to showing up for free for 31 days is because I believe in the power of what I teach.

It will work for anyone committed to the process and committed to doing the work.

You can still join if you want to - the replays from all previous days are available and it comes with a workbook for all the daily assignments.

So, you can catch up.

Now back to our regular programming.

Things I Learnt

1 - Trust People to Work for the Highest Common Good That Supports Them: During the week, I saw a couple of my team members rise to some of the goals that I pushed them for.

My approach at work is usually this - give them the goals, trust them to find the right method, help them clear out any difficulties on their way and stay out of their way.

It's not without risk.

But that is how I build trust.

I want to have a team that works even if I am not around.

I want to be able to take holidays and not have to worry about work because the people I leave behind take care of business.

It doesn't make me redundant. It makes me relevant in a way that is uniquely me.

I know there is more ground to cover.

I still need to push them even further.

2 - Don't Until You Can't Move Forward: There is something that our family has been working on. During the week, we reached a milestone.

To get to that milestone, I had to deal with a lot of No"s".

After every "No", I simply asked, "Who is the next person I can ask that might give me a "Yes"?"

And that's how we reached the current milestone.

It's not yet over but I am even more confident that we will hit our goal.

If we don't stop at every "No" and keep looking for the next "Yes".

Postscript

May you always have the confidence to keep looking for the next "Yes" no matter how many "Nos" you get on your road to living the life God marked out for you. Amen.
