Welcome to the June 23rd edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week
The next half year is upon us.
I have my goals for the new period.
And a few of the little habits I need to live by.
I will be adding more habits.
Habits ensure certainty in the goal achievement.
Bursts of action may be exciting but wane up and down depending on momentum.
I am on the habit circuit.
To make my second half of 2024 better than the first.
Things I Learnt
1 - When An Idea is Time Right: During the first half of the year, I was fully focused on completing my book during my free time.
I had other goals but I had to push them forward.
After I completed the book, I felt it was time for me to make a particular goal front and centre.
To help me get faster to the finish line, I needed a specialist.
I got a miracle of that. A friend referred one to me during the week.
She had gotten his contact by chance. A long-time friend she hadn’t spoken to in almost 17 years had reached out to her.
During their conversation, the long-time friend talked about the consultant. My friend immediately asked for his contact because I had mentioned my goal to her.
The rest is current events.
When I spoke with the consultant - he showed the right level of enthusiasm and clarity of thought to show he was the guy for the job.
I was grateful to God and my friend.
God works through people who have been planted in my life. This is one of the reasons why I share my goals selectively within my circle.
I try to share it with people that I think might have the possibility of moving me faster towards reaching the goal.
2 - A Time for Leaders to be Wrong: During a visit to acquaintances of mine, they shared some of the stories from their past on problems they had with leaders.
It wasn’t just their stories - it included stories of their friends.
They had been part of organisations led by strong and charismatic leaders. These leaders had strong convictions and perspectives about important issues.
These convictions also played in how they ran their personal lives. As you can imagine, it also played in how they wanted the people they led to run their personal lives.
According to them, they and their friends made a number of their personal choices based on the convictions of these leaders.
So what was the problem?
Years later, these leaders had changed some of their convictions. They made new decisions based on these convictions.
According to them, the leaders had the resources to course-correct. They didn’t have it and found it a bit more challenging to redirect.
Interestingly, I don’t blame the leaders.
It is wrong to let anyone assume responsibility for decisions you need to make for yourself.
But it’s not a new problem.
Adam blamed Eve for his eating of the fruit. Eve blamed the snake. Even Milli Vanilli said “You can blame it on the rain” if you are caught.
The convictions of leaders are just an information source - the final decision or indecision rests on you and me.
It’s OK for leaders to be good and wrong.
Just because a leader is a guru in business does not mean he has all the chops to help you make parenting decisions.
Genius in one area does not always translate to genius in all areas.
Postscript
May you take control of your life and live out your convictions and not those of the people around you. Amen
