Faith & Life Lessons - November 28, 2021

Welcome to the November 28th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

This was a week of "best-laid schemes of men & mice"

I ended last week with a prayer that the family would get back to good health.

I started this week with a dash of news that turned everything on its head.

On Monday, our daughter had to be taken back to the hospital.

The end game was that she had to be put on admission.

I had to take a rush flight back home, arriving just before 4 am.

As I write, the family is climbing out.

Our daughter has been discharged and back home and the rest of the family is all getting better.

The week might have been challenging but it gave me more reasons to be grateful to God.

God shines over His children.

Thank you for my family.

Things I Learnt

1-A new Family for Every Christian: One of the things about living in a foreign country is the fact that you don't have extended families to fall back on during emergencies.

This is where the family that God gives every Christian through the church comes into play.

While our daughter was on admission and my wife stayed with her in the hospital, the ladies in the community group that my wife is part of took turns in providing meals for us.

My wife was guaranteed food while they were in the hospital. They brought enough to feed those of us at home.

The diversity of the community group also meant that we sampled meals from different cultures.

We had Indian, Venezuelan, Thai, and American (what else do you call Mac and Cheese?) meals amongst others.

They were not all home-cooked meals.

Some ordered and had them delivered to us.

They spent about forty euros on a meal.

The ladies reminded us that we had a new family.

God's family in the Church.

A family that exists no matter where we find ourselves.

As long as there is a Church, there is a family of God we can lean on.

2-A Better Person for the Season: I was ruminating over a couple of things I was doing with my son during the week.

I concluded that I was happy that God did not go with my original timetable for starting a family.

I am a better father because I have come into fatherhood during this season of life.

The spiritual depth and pursuit of knowledge have made me a better person for this season.

I don't know what the future will be like for my kids but I am sure they will be well-prepared for it because I am a better person for their season of life.

I am also more confident in God's ability to fulfill the future He has for them.

Because He is more concerned about their future than I am.

I look forward to seeing all they become in the future.

Postscript

May the God of peace give you peace in your mind soul and spirit. May you always find shelter in all of life's challenging situations. Amen.
