Faith & Life Lessons - February 4, 2024

Welcome to the February 4th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

I am restarting with a new team in another country this week.

I had been meeting with them virtually but now I get my boots on the ground.

There is a different vibe that being physically present gives to people.

Don’t get me wrong, I am well-adapted to working remotely.

But not everyone is.

And it’s great to know what vibe works best with the team.

My end game is to create a hybrid experience.

A hybrid experience where physical and virtual experiences enhance the team members’ engagement at work.

My experience creation begins now.

Things I Learnt

1-Celebrate the Wins: One of my clients in my practice achieved one of her milestone goals. During our meeting, I asked her if she had celebrated it.

It sounded like I had just spoken French to the Jabaris.

Anyhow, we dug deeper.

When she achieved this milestone goal, she felt a huge sense of relief. According to her, she slept better.

With this in mind, I asked “Why don’t you also celebrate it?”

Celebration creates a milestone marker where she rewards herself for putting in the effort to deliver her goal.

And it’s important to do this for milestone goals.

She agreed to it.

She plans to go for a buffet lunch with her family to celebrate it.

Even better - celebrating with the important people in her life.

2 - Keeping Your Priority to Yourself: My client was explaining how she is so committed to keeping any commitment to others.

When she gives her word, she would move heaven and earth to make sure she lives up to it.

The only issue is that she makes excuses for the priorities she makes to herself.

The foundation of this is because she doesn’t want to “lose face” in front of others.

But she will be more understanding of herself.

So we decided that she needs to make herself a priority worth keeping her commitments to.

We have to build her muscle here by setting her up for success.

To do that, we agreed on short bi-weekly sprints.

Yes, for two weeks, she will set a commitment to herself that she has to keep to herself.

Just two weeks.

In the next two weeks, she will set another priority to herself that she has to keep to herself.

Little by little, effort upon effort, she will learn how to keep her priority to herself.

Postscript

May you live in integrity to yourself and keep your commitment to yourself. Amen.
