Faith & Life Lessons - September 13, 2020

Welcome to the September 13th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story Of My Week

I am relearning the lessons of life seasons.

I was so busy last week that I had to miss out on completing certain personal tasks.

It’s not a straightforward adventure balancing family (with a baby just over 6 months), work demands, and all the other things that come with doing life with others.

Someone sent me a message on social media last week to find out how I was doing.

I could understand. It was the end of the week and I had been silent on social media. I have daily themes that drive my posts and I only kept up with Monday post.

It’s clear that I need a little more life in my day.

When the obligation conflicts make themselves the dark shadow over my week, I simply focus my attention on the obligations that would give me more life.

They don’t drain - they renew me.

Because they represent the higher responsibilities God has given me at that time of life.

They don’t have to be awe inspiring. They could be as simple as helping to put my baby to sleep ahead of writing a social media post.

Or just resting emotionally and spiritually when I could be doing more.

I need a little more life in my day.

Things I Learnt

1-Maturity vs Availability: I recently wrestled in my heart with an appointment that was made in a ministry I like.

They had appointed a team to lead a group. The team are good people and I have had the pleasure of knowing them one-on-one.

The only concern I had with their appointment is that I felt they were immature for the role they were taking on.

I could understand what might be going on in the minds of those making the appointment. “Do we wait for mature people whom we can’t see and ignore the available people that we see now” they might have thought.

Considerations like “they can grow into it” comforts the hearts of those making such decisions.

Maybe my fear comes from having been in groups where the immature have led and the not-so-great outcome of such.

I want these guys to succeed.

The only thing I can hope for is that there will be a Paul to stand beside Timothy for them.

2-Bad Decisions or Just God at Work: For about a couple of weeks, I have been planning for a weekend outing with another family we are friends with.

As it turned out, we could not conclude on if both families were going until Monday. As a result, most of the places I had to secure could only be done between Tuesday and Wednesday.

The only problem is that I didn’t get the first choice in places and transport options that I wanted.

I blamed myself for not acting faster during the weekend to secure the first choice in places that didn’t depend on both families.

As a fix-it action, I immediately started reading a book on decision making. My way of making sure I didn’t fail the course again.

Well, we all went over the weekend. As it turned out, the second choice options for places and transport were the best choice for us.

This made me wonder.

Was it God redeeming my second choice options or God keeping me away from selecting the first choice options?

Was it my bad decision making process redeemed or God influencing the better choice for us?

Honestly, I don’t know.

I can only tell you that we were better for the second choice options.

Only God knows the full picture.

So He gets all the credit

I make a choice to improve my decision-making process.

Become better at finding the choice that pleases God best.

Postscript

May you find the peace to forgive yourself for error in decisions you make and the assurance to wait for God to redeem them. Amen
