Faith & Life Lessons - September 17, 2023

Welcome to the September 17th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.

You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.

The Story of My Week

One of the thoughts that dominated my week was fathering and parenting.

I spent a bit of time thinking about my fathering and parenting.

The whole idea was to ask myself if I was doing all I should be doing.

The whole thing came to a head for me when I watched Kirk Franklin's documentary "Father's Day: A Kirk Franklin Story"

I will not spoil the 35-minute documentary for you but I'll give you the Cliffs Notes version - Parents matter in every child's life - especially fathers.

If you have the time to invest in a personal story of Kirk that unfolded over the last few months, leading to a reconciliation with his son and finding a father he did know, you can watch it here

Bottom line, I came out of the week with a strong zeal to pursue a stronger vision for my fatherhood and parenting.

Things I Learnt

1- Pushing Myself for My Bigger Benefits: I am in a season of my life where I need to keep my eyes on more than one aspect of my life.

Not just keep an eye on them.

I have to push myself in those areas - even if it means setting audacious targets for myself.

In addition to everything on my plate, I want to start learning the guitar.

Why?

It's another way of keeping my brain fresh and sharp while also opening new doors of creative expression for me.

Bigger benefits for me in the future from it.

2-Making Time for Not Everything: During a coaching call with a client of mine this week, she asked "How do I do everything within my busy schedule?"

I explained that I don't do everything. I only do things that don't conflict with the most important things in my life.

As long as I can do the most important things - everything else can revolve around them.

This is what I keep doing.

I design my schedule around this.

It's why I can't put myself out at a certain level. Because the important things to me demand more of my time.

Everything else can wait.

They come online to fill only what they can fill.

Postscript

May you experience God's peace when you need to say "No" to the things that you don't need to invest your life in. Amen.
