Howdy ,
When I got my first job post-NYSC, a lot didn't change for me.
Ok, yes I was getting more cash than I had ever gotten up till that moment.
I decided not to get a car and continued to live at my parents' place.
Living rent-free helped to keep my costs down.
And I continued to take public transport everywhere I went.
It was fun to run into older folks who had known me since I was a kid.
After the usual greetings, they would ask "How is school?" "I hope school is going well."
I didn't bother changing their view about what stage of life I was in.
I was still in school anyway. The school of life.
One of the things it was teaching is the need to keep my costs low as long as I can now so I can create savings to invest in the future.
Eventually, they stopped asking me about school once I bought a car - public transport was losing out especially where working late at the office was concerned.
By then, it was not about trying to prove I was a newly minted career professional.
No, it was based on the need of the moment.
That is the lesson I keep trying to live out.
Buy things that support current important needs while investing the rest to prepare for future important needs.
One of my principles for winning in life.
I am a Workplace Multiplier
