Welcome to the June 14th edition of Faith & Life Lessons.
You will see this email full of tidbits from my week. My goal is simple. I hope that from how I live my life, you can find a thing or two that helps you as you try to live a life that matters. I am always trying to do one thing - make Christ-focused decisions in love, work, and life. And this was my week.
The Story of My Week.
I want to appreciate everyone who reached out to me after my email last week saying I was not feeling fully fit.
Thank you very much.
I spent most of the week getting better.
And I am much better now.
The week turned out to be pivotal for me in many ways. As I was building up my physical health, I was building up my spiritual strength.
Why?
Because I am very much convinced that to be a difference maker in this season, both sides have to be in play.
Not more of the other…both of them.
I am excited for what the rest of this season will bring my way.
We will make God famous.
Things I Learned
1-Explaining the Game: A few weeks back, I shared that God called my attention to the fact that I was doing too much. In keeping with that, I took stock of different areas of my life to see how I needed to adjust.
One of the things I did was with the folks I oversee at work.
I changed how I worked with them.
I have what I call the Multiplier Teaching Method - a 5-step sequence to building workplace capability and trust.
I won't go into detail on it. The summary of it is that at level 1 & 2, I was still very much involved in what the people who report to me do.
At level 3 & 4, my involvement is very minimal.
Over the past few weeks after that God moment, I decided to move all of them to level 3 & 4.
There have been teething problems for some of them.
On Wednesday, during our monthly performance review, I explained the whole game to them.
Not the God moment path. Naa, just the part about moving them all to level 3 & 4.
The next day after the session, one of them, while presenting what he had done to me, said he was trying to operate at level 4.
I was glad to hear this.
People understood the game. Everything else is easier to work with.
2-Fasting for Life: I did something else this week; I had a 3-day fast. First thing my wife told me when I said I was starting was that I should consider postponing it since I was still recovering.
The funny thing is that "recovering from sickness" seems to be becoming a recurring theme with kicking off major fasting seasons for me.
If you recall, in March, when I was starting the 40-day fast, I decided while I was in the hospital.
In this case, I made the decision the week before and decided not to move it. Despite the "recovering from sickness" situation.
I am glad I didn't.
Because it was a time of additional clarity for some of the things that I would be doing in this season.
I have leading words to build the next phase of life for me.
God is at work in me.
Postscript
May you find the strength to keep your commitments to yourself. Amen
