Doors Open in Sugar Creek (and more to read)

Hi, ,
I’ve been thinking lately about a few things people sometimes misunderstand about writing.
First — creative writing isn’t easy.
There are so many ideas swirling around in my mind at any given time that organizing them into something clear and meaningful can feel like trying to catch fireflies in the dark. Especially when more than one story is asking to be told at once.
I often write several versions of the same story— sometimes even the same scene— before I find the one that truly reaches the heart of it. The one that feels honest. The one that feels ready for you.
Second — while writing is often solitary, it isn’t meant to stay that way.
There are moments when I need to talk through a plot twist or wrestle with a character’s decision out loud. Storytelling may start quietly at my desk, but it grows stronger in community.
And finally — this may sound a little sentimental — but these characters become very real to me.
I carry them for months. I worry over them. I want the best for them. In many ways, they feel like dear friends… or even children I’ve raised carefully before sending them out into the world.
Letting them go is emotional. But it’s also deeply satisfying.
And I don’t do it alone.
I have been incredibly blessed with some of the most thoughtful beta readers and street team members who help refine these stories before they ever reach you. Their feedback, encouragement, and honesty make the books better every single time.
A special thank you to Miranda, Sherry, Nari, and Deb — you’ve walked beside me through so many projects, and I’m endlessly grateful.
If you’ve ever wondered what happens before a book lands in your hands… now you know a little more.
And I’m so thankful you’re here to read the finished story.
