Why more money can feel stressful (and what to do about it)

Mar 31, 2026 4:01 pm

Hey friend,

Let’s start with something honest:

You want more money.

You want more ease.

You want your life to feel… lighter.

And yet…

Sometimes when money does show up—

more income, an opportunity, a decision—

It doesn’t feel like relief.

It feels like pressure.

If that’s you, you’re not doing anything wrong.

You’re just running into something most people never get taught:

Receiving is a skill.

The Two Shifts That Change Everything

This week’s Field Guide (Episodes 115 & 116) comes down to two ideas:

1. The Ease Paradox

The harder you try to force ease…

the more stress you create.

Trying to fix everything at once = pressure.

Pressure ≠ ease.

2. The Capacity Problem

You don’t receive what you want.

You receive what you can hold.

If your system doesn’t feel safe with more…

you’ll unconsciously push it away.

Not because you’re broken.

Because you’re protecting yourself.

What This Looks Like in Real Life

  • You make more money… then feel anxious
  • You get an opportunity… then hesitate
  • You want growth… but feel overwhelmed by it

That’s not a mindset issue.

That’s your nervous system saying:

“Hey… this feels like a lot.”

The Simple Practice (Start Here)

This is your one tool for the week:

The Pause Practice

The next time money shows up—

A purchase

A paycheck

A bill

An opportunity

Do this:

  1. Pause
  2. Notice your body
  3. Take one slow breath (long exhale)
  4. Then respond

That moment right there?

That’s where your capacity grows.

Guided Reflection (Do This Slowly)

You can journal this… or just sit with it.

1. How do I actually feel when I think about having more money?

Not how you should feel.

Your real answer.

2. What feels uncomfortable or unsafe about receiving more?

Be honest here.

Is it pressure?

Responsibility?

Fear of losing it?

Fear of being seen?

3. Where have I been resisting or avoiding financial growth?

Look for patterns:

Avoidance

Delay

Overthinking

Underselling

Overspending

Not failure.

Protection.

4. What would feeling safe with money actually feel like?

Calm?

Steady?

Unrushed?

Clear?

Let your body answer—not your logic.

5. If I felt safe with money… how would I show up differently?

Would you:

Make decisions more calmly?

Hold onto money longer?

Say yes more easily?

That version of you is already forming.

The Core Truth

You don’t need to force more.

You need to become someone who can hold more.

And that happens in small moments.

Not big leaps.

🔒 Subscriber Bonus: The “Capacity Builder” Exercise

This is your deeper practice for the week.

Step 1: Choose a Small Expansion

Pick something slightly outside your comfort zone:

  • Holding a little more money in your account
  • Raising a price slightly
  • Saying yes to a small opportunity

Nothing overwhelming. Just a stretch.

Step 2: Stay With It

Instead of reacting…

Stay present.

Notice your body.

Let the discomfort rise without immediately fixing it.

This is key.

Step 3: Regulate + Hold

Slow breath in… longer breath out.

Tell yourself:

“It’s safe for me to hold this.”

Let your body settle while still holding the expansion.

Step 4: Normalize It

Stay with it long enough that it starts to feel…

Less intense.

More familiar.

More manageable.

That’s capacity building in real time.

This Week’s Focus

Not more effort.

Not more strategy.

Just this:

👉 One clean move

👉 One pause

👉 One moment of awareness

That’s how this changes.
