Every month without the right structure is not a pause. It is a cost.
Howdy ,
Yesterday I shared a story about a senior executive who had one mentor and called it a support system.
If that landed for you, if you felt a quiet recognition when you read it, I want to stay with that feeling for a moment.
Because here is what most people do after a moment of recognition.
They acknowledge it. They mean to do something about it. And then the week moves on.
I understand that. Life at a high level is full. The urgent crowds out the important.
And the support gap...unlike a missed deadline or a difficult conversation, does not announce itself loudly. It just quietly costs you.
So let me name what that cost actually looks like.
It looks like decisions made without the right thinking partner, decisions that would have been sharper, faster, or simply different with the right person in the room.
It looks like standards that drift, not dramatically, but enough...because there is no one with permission to hold you to what you said you would do.
It looks like arriving at a new level and realising the people around you are still calibrated to the level you just left.
None of these costs show up on a spreadsheet. But every high performer I have worked with who has been honest with themselves knows exactly what I am describing.
The gap does not stay neutral. It compounds.
And the longer it stays unaddressed, the more it costs...in missed opportunities, in unnecessary weight, and in the distance between where you are operating and where your capability could take you.
The first step is naming the gap precisely.
Not generally...precisely. Because a general sense that something is missing does not tell you what to do next. A precise diagnosis does.
That is what the audit is for.
