I used to tell myself a story that selling was hard and I couldn't do it. I was comfortable being a communicator, even a marketer — but a saleswoman? Definitely not me. That is until 2023...

When I got the big "C", fear drove me to learn everything I could about this illness. I researched eating to heal, ways to reduce stress, the best doctors, the best labs — anything that would help me beat this thing.

As I sat in waiting rooms during treatment, I would hear other patients speaking about their experiences. As I listened, I knew I couldn't sit-by quietly when I heard them struggling with the same pain and anxiety I'd felt. So I started sharing everything I discovered:

• Found a good doctor? Shared the info
• Discovered comfortable button-down pyjamas? Posted the Amazon link
• Located quality compression stockings? Shared the store and measuring tips
• Found a supportive Facebook group? Shared the link
• Bought a wig I loved? Shared that too

Then one day, something happened.....A woman messaged me on Facebook saying she'd booked a mammogram at the place I recommended. When the technician asked how she knew about their place, she mentioned my name.

The tech's response? "Wow, you're like the 11th person this week who came here because of her."

That's when it hit me: "Jamila, how can you say you can't sell when you're literally selling everyone else's products?"

In the days and months to follow, three things became crystal clear:

1. Selling is helping. Nothing more, nothing less.
2. I could always sell — I just hadn't found a problem deep enough to solve.
3. I felt responsible to use my skills to help people, even without payment. That's how I knew I'd found my purpose.
