They were only relying on Referrals & Ads for leads

Wanted to share a little story around my recent discovery call with a prospect.


I recently had a discovery call with an accountancy outsourcing business that’s looking to break into cold outreach. Until now, they’ve been relying mostly on Google and Meta ads plus referrals. But with a solid team and bandwidth to do outreach themselves, I shared a straightforward blueprint that anyone can follow.


Here’s what I told them:


Protect Your Domain First

  1. Grab similar domains from GoDaddy (never send outreach from your main domain - burn it once, and you’re locked out forever).
  2. Set up Google & Microsoft email accounts - either directly or with Zapmail.
  3. Use outreach tools like Instantly or Smartlead to automate sequences.

This is basic stuff, but crucial. Most people skip these steps and kill their sender reputation early on.


Now, Build Your Outreach Funnel Like a Content Funnel

Think of your prospects in three buckets:


Top of Funnel (ToFU):

Create a list based on your past case studies or testimonials. This is your broader pool of potential clients who might benefit from your service. Meeting conversion rates here will be lower - but the list size compensates for it.


Middle of Funnel (MoFU):

Do some targeted research on prospects. Use AI or manually identify specific pain points where you know your service could help. For example, if you’re selling video editing, spot where their recent videos can be improved. This list is smaller, but you can confirm they actually need your service.


Bottom of Funnel (BoFU):

Find prospects who are actively hiring for roles related to your service on job boards, communities, or forums like Upwork, Reddit, Skool, Discord, Indeed, etc. The list will be the smallest here, but the meeting conversion rate is the highest - because now they WANT your solution.
