Why Is Health Tech Still Not Personalized?

image

Health technologies are often built based on the “reference man” and frequently don’t take other demographics into account.

“When we make informed decisions and we build technologies and tools to provide healthcare experiences or care experiences to people, we build those models off of the ‘reference man,’ said Danika Kelly, co-founder and CEO of My Normative, a female-focused health platform. “The ‘reference man’ is a 70 kilogram, 20 to 30-year-old white, cisgendered male person. … Because of that, there are these inequities and health outcomes across sex and gender, and other demographics as well.”

What is the Next Chapter for FDA’s Accelerated Approval’s in Oncology?

image

In 1992, the accelerated approval pathway was established with the aim of providing patients with serious or life-threatening diseases quicker access to new therapies. Initially developed as a response to the HIV-AIDS crisis, oncology drugs now make up the majority of treatments approved through this pathway. The accelerated approval process enables the FDA to grant approval based on surrogate endpoints, which are highly likely to predict clinical benefit. However, it is important to note that the sponsor must conduct confirmatory clinical trials to verify the efficacy and safety of the treatment after approval. Prompt completion of these post-approval trials is essential to ensure that therapies approved through this pathway are both safe and effective.

We Need to Work Across Sectors to Advance Health Equity, Global Health Leaders Say

image

Addressing health disparities requires a multifaceted approach that extends beyond the healthcare system. Factors such as housing, nutrition, and education also play a significant role. In order to overcome these obstacles, collaboration amongst different sectors is essential. Hans Kluge, the regional director for Europe at the World Health Organization, stresses the importance of addressing social and economic determinants of health. This involves examining the conditions in which people live, work, and play. Finland has introduced a new concept called the Economy of Wellbeing that prioritizes health equity as a driving force for economic development. In summary, tackling health disparities requires a concerted effort by various sectors to address social and economic determinants of health.

A Tale of Two Yield Curves

image

Understanding the yield curve is important for investors. The UST 2-Yr/10-Yr and UST 3-Mo/10-yr gauges are two closely monitored measures that investors use to anticipate the outlook for the economy. Recently, both of these measures entered inverted or negative territory.

What does this mean?

Historically, an inverted yield curve has been an indicator of an upcoming recession. In simple terms, it means that investors are demanding higher yields for short-term bonds than for long-term bonds. This can indicate that investors have lost confidence in the economy's future growth potential.

So, what should investors do?

While it's important to be aware of economic indicators like the yield curve, it's also important not to panic. Smart investors know that it's not about timing the market, but about time in the market. Stick to your investment plan and stay diversified across asset classes to weather any economic storm.

Mining stock Hochschild ended 11% down today: explained here

image

Hochschild is projecting to produce between 301,000 to 314,000 gold equivalent ounces in 2023, with an all-in sustaining cost of $1,370 to $1,450 per gold equivalent ounce. Compared to last year, production was down and costs were up, but don't worry, the stock is still up roughly 8.0% at writing. 💰

Although production was lower than expected, Hochschild had anticipated this due to "scheduled grade reductions at Inmaculada and Pallancata." So, no need to panic!

😅 For the full year, the metals mining company reported $24.3 million of pre-tax profit excluding exceptional items. Sure, it's a decline from last year's $148.7 million, but we're still shining bright like a diamond! 💎 Revenue also slipped 9.0% to $735.6 million, but we're staying

2 reasons to increase your gold portfolio allocation now

image

Gold has skyrocketed in 2023, exceeding $2000 for the third time since 2020.🤑 Although some investors are hesitant to invest in gold due to potential triple top patterns, this resistance rarely holds up.

But, there are two reasons why investors should increase their gold portfolio allocations now:

  1. Gold has outperformed major currencies in the last 22 years, delivering better returns than fiat currencies like USD, EUR, GBP, and CHF.💪
  2. High inflation is here to stay, making gold a valuable asset to have in any portfolio.

💰📈 So, it's time to add some sparkle to your investments with gold!✨

Copper price forecast: on the cusp of a 10% jump

image

Copper price didn't budge much on Tuesday even though China's GDP data was impressive. It was trading at $4.07, which is still ~2.57% below the highest level on Monday this week. Despite that, copper has jumped by over 30% from its lowest point in 2022 🚀.

The odds of a supply deficit remain, yet copper price has been in a tight range in the past few days 📉. The metal even consolidated despite the latest China GDP data 🤔.

📊 The data revealed that the Chinese economy expanded by 4.5% in the first quarter, helped by strong exports and infrastructure spending. This growth was also helped by a rebound in property prices after they plunged following Evergrande’s implosion.

Emerson stock should be worth $105, analyst says

image

💰🚀 Emerson stock could reach new heights with a potential 23% increase, thanks to an "overweight" upgrade and a raised price objective. The company's strong focus on industrial automation and high margins are expected to contribute to its success. Keep an eye out for Q2 results on May 3rd. Despite a previous setback with a hostile bid, Emerson's recent acquisition of National Instruments Corp for $60 a share is a positive development. Don't forget, EMR is also a dividend stock with a current yield of 2.41% - 🤑👍.

Netflix share price slides, will password sharing crackdown work?

image

One year ago on this very day, things were not looking good for Netflix (Nasdaq: NFLX) as they suffered a 35% drop in their share price! 😱 A whopping $50 billion was wiped off their market cap after a disappointing Q1 earnings report for 2022 showed a loss of 200,000 subscribers.

It was the first time in over a decade that Netflix had experienced a drop in subscribers and they even predicted a further loss of 2 million in the following quarter. 😔

But, fast forward to now and things are looking up for the streaming giant as their share price has increased by 43% since then. Yesterday, they reported their Q1 earnings for 2023, and although the fallout wasn't as dramatic as last year, the stock did drop by 3% (initially falling by 10%). 😕

Tesco share price forecast as UK retail sales slump, inflation jumps

image

🚀 Tesco's (LON: TSCO) share price is on a 🔥! Despite worrying UK inflation and retail sales numbers, the shares soared to a high of 275.7p on Thursday - the highest point since May 2022. That's a whopping 41% surge from the lowest level in 2022! 😮

But, 🙁 the UK economy is facing some serious worries. The cost of living crisis is getting worse every day as the headline consumer price index (CPI) remains stubbornly high. Food prices jumped, keeping the CPI above 10% in March. This means that the country's inflation is substantially higher than other countries, such as Spain where inflation has dropped to 3.3%. 😬

The rising inflation has led to a sharp decline in retail sales, according to data published on Friday. 😔
