SEPTEMBER 24, 2020
Welcome to this week’s issue of Houston Tech News. We will recap some of our takeaways from last week’s events.
RICE ENERGY TECH VENTURE FORUM
Our favorite companies(in no particular order):
- Gives companies a suite of tools to build custom robotics.
- Already has big name clients like NASA, Siemens, Ericsson.
- The robotics market continues to grow and by having a modular system that allows companies to build for their own needs HEBI could end up being a large player in the space.
- Manage your marine supply chain through their platform
- The maritime supply chain industry is huge and Voyager seems to have some tailwinds behind it. The key is whether they can continue to grow their client base amongst other competition.
- Quidnet operates at the nexus of energy and water to enable predictable delivery of power from intermittent sources and large-scale deployment of renewable energy.
- Their Geomechanical Pumped Storage allows for pumped hydro on various terrain at a fraction of the cost.
- The Long Duration Energy Storage market is a big one and those that gain a winning edge will play a large role in the energy markets of the future.
- Backed by Bill Gates.
BLOCKCHAIN IN OIL AND GAS FORUM
- Blockchain technology is seeing increased adoption in the energy space and the Blockchain For Energy Consortium (a consortium of many of the top energy companies) has seen multiple successful pilots recently.
- The biggest use cases continue to still be around finance/accounting and supply chain innovation.
- Data Gumbo, a Houston-based blockchain startup felt the impact from Covid during the summer but has bounced back and accelerated the deals in their pipeline coming out of the summer. They have also recently secured a new round of $4M in funding from L37, as well as returning investors Equinor and Saudi Aramco.
As always if there is a specific company you want us to look at or have anything to reach out for please feel free to let us know at [email protected]
