3-Point Thursday #327

Aug 24, 2023 5:16 pm

Hey,

I'm finally coming out the other side of summer - we delivered our last two events on Friday and Saturday (more on that below) and now it's back to winter hibernation and planning what is next (but not before checking out the Big3 this Saturday at the O2 - tickets still available here!).

This week's 3-pointer:

🇬🇧 Hoopsfix Select fall to EWU

On Friday we were in Essex to host Eastern Washington in a game that was a celebration of former Ipswich/Essex big man Ethan Price. Our roster was predominantly made up of Price's former teammates, a handful of GB prospects plus one Aaryn Rai. Managed to hang around in the first half before turning into a blowout in the second - was always gonna be a tough ask, but a great event to do regardless, and meant a lot for Ethan/EWU which was the main thing!

☀️ Berlin & Rotterdam prevail in Summer Jam Finals

On Saturday (! - do not do different events on back to back days unless you want to put yourself through a whole world of stress) we were in Clapham to round out the summer at the Foot Locker Summer Jam Finals. What a great day it was; we were owed a sunny one after the summer we've had, and the weather held out while teams from London, Berlin, Barcelona, Milan, Paris and Rotterdam (all from courts that Foot Locker have renovated over the past couple of years) battled it out in a knockout competition in front of packed out bleachers. Berlin and Rotterdam took the crowns, while people enjoyed good food, drinks, Puma t-shirt printing, adidas shoot outs and more, before the court turned into an afterparty with live acts on the New Balance Stage! See all the results here.

🌎 FIBA Basketball World Cup starts tomorrow!

Unfortunately no UK TV broadcaster has picked up the rights for the World Cup starting tomorrow - so the only place you can watch it is on Courtside 1891. We have a 10% discount code for Hoopsfix readers, taking the price of a World Cup pass to £19.80 – the best price you will be able to get it for, anywhere. Note – we will get a small commission on any purchases of Courtside 1891 through our links – so you’ll also be supporting our work! Sign up now.

That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam
