3-Point Thursday #207

Hey,

Loving this second blast of a late summer over the past week, though admittedly not been out in the sunshine as much as I would like, with plenty going on to keep me busy!

This week's 3-pointer:

🎙 Podcast: Dave Forrester

Imagine being a fan of a BBL side and then ending up as an assistant coach for a decade and winning 14 trophies! Sounds improbable but it's Dave Forrester's stories with the Eagles. Thoroughly enjoyed doing this podcast. Often seen on Twitter jumping to the defence of the BBL with facts/data/figures and insight most don't have, it was a great opportunity to not only discuss his story but also the state of the game and misconceptions about the BBL.

🔗 Link Love

Good to see Sky Sports getting on the British basketball train this week looking at why the game is perennially underfunded. As with a lot of 'mainstream' media pieces I think it overlooks some key things and has gone for a very specific angle but good to see a mainstream media outlet backing the cause (even if the responses on social are pretty toxic...). Meanwhile, Mark Woods is reporting London Lions' new ownership - 777 Partners - are looking at investing £5m in the BBL for a non-majority stake; potentially huge news if it happens. Additionally, in more evidence just how potentially challenging the coming season is going to be with COVID-19, the Eagles are going behind closed doors for their pilot game tomorrow, whilst the National Cup was cancelled last week.

👕 Hoopsfix Merch

It's taken up way too much of my time over the past few weeks, but the Hoopsfix store is finally live again after a few issues since migrating servers! We have limited stock of some items, along with a new headwear product - the New Era x Hoopsfix stretch snap collab - if you want to support Hoopsfix and get something for your money - check out the store and use the code hoopsfix3pt for 10% off (for 1 week only!). Meanwhile, it's our Patreon anniversary tomorrow - if you want to support our work on a recurring basis (annual payments instead of just monthly now available), please consider signing up on Patreon.

As always, that's another drop, let me know if you have any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam
