3-Point Thursday #297

Oct 06, 2022 12:01 pm

Hey,

Last time I wrote, the season was about to get underway, and now we're fully underway! I'm still playing catch up here at Hoopsfix HQ and trying to get into a rhythm for the season which is proving more difficult than expected.

Anyway, this week's 3-pointer:

🇬🇧 Dan Clark announces retirement

GB legend Dan Clark has announced his surprise retirement as he looks to newer pastures. There are few better ambassadors for the British game than Dan, who has shown up and represented his country every summer without fail, while speaking out and trying to hold the federation account. A consummate professional who blazed a trail as the first British player to sign a junior contract in Europe as a 14 year old, and leaves the game all over the GB all-time leaderboard (atop of it for caps, points, rebounds, blocks and FGM!) - he will be sorely missed! Check out the full podcast we did here, where we discuss his decision and talk hoops! On the women's side, Rachael Vanderwal has also hung them up, following a 16-year pro career and over 100 caps with GB.

🎨 Deptford Blue Cage latest outdoor court renovation

Things that warm my heart: outdoor court renovations done properly! Massive shout out to Sam Sure and Lewisham Council for getting this 3-court beauty done in South London - it is catapulted up to be amongst the top outdoor courts in the country and will no doubt be used for events next summer...the more the merrier; if you feel inspired to take on your own project, check out our court renovation guide.

📺 BBL announces 3 year deal with WSC

In news that should make a big difference to the BBL's outputs this season, they have announced a 3-year deal with WSC - an automated video producing platform. Producing real-time clipped and tagged play by play content, it will help the BBL produce player highlights, highlight clips, condensed games and top ten plays, amongst other things - all in speedy fashion. I know there have been a few teething issues to start the season but this should make a considerable difference when firing on all angles!

That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!

With gratitude,

Sam

P.S. Just got a bug fixed with Hoopsfix Live so it's back up and running as a central database for all British basketball live streams this season - bookmark it and come back each week to watch British hoops!
