3-Point Thursday #282

Mar 11, 2022 7:04 pm

Hey,

Another week in the bag, as I come to you from North Devon for a few days visiting family - been hard to keep up with everything that has been going on recently!

This week's 3-pointer:

πŸ† BBL & WBBL Trophy Final set

The BBL & WBBL Trophy Finals in Glasgow are now set; Cheshire Phoenix played spoiler and dispatched of potential home side Glasgow to book their spot, while London Lions took care of business with Bristol, while their female counterparts are also in the final, setting up a match up with Sevenoaks Suns.

πŸ¦… Solent Kestrels win fourth straight

Team Solent Kestrels have won their fourth consecutive Division 1 Men’s League title following a day of games on Sunday afternoon, further cementing their status as one of the all-time dominant franchises in British basketball history. They add the league title to their National Cup final win from January, as they remain on target for a treble-winning season.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ More Brits in college success

In my 12 years doing this, I do not remember a year that we've had so many Brits not only winning titles, but receiving individual accolades. Additional to the ones in last week's newsletter, a Brit quartet have helped MSU to a Big Sky title - led by Jubrile Belo who picked up the Big Sky MVP and DPOY, meanwhile Ethan Price won Freshman of the Year in the same conference. Tosan Evbuomwan is unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year, Amari Williams picked up the CAA DPOY, Jeremy Sochan was Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year after helping Baylor to the Big 12 title, Jelani Watson-Gayle is PacWest Newcomer of the Year, and Tomiwa Sulaiman the PSAC Rookie of the Year after also winning a title. Additionally, AJ Edu won a MAC title, Vasja Pandza helped Seattle to their first ever WAC title, and Nelson Boachie-Yiadom won an A10 title. On the women's side, Savannah Wilkinson earned a spot on the All-AAC second team, Hannah Jump won second Pac-12 title, Ella Doherty won a MAC title with Toledo, Esther Little won a WCC title with Gonzaga, Kadija Conteh was named to All-UMAC Second team and won a Conference Championship and on the coaching side, Donna Finnie picked up Coach of the Year after leading Houston Baptist University to its first-ever regular season title! What a ton of success.

Meanwhile, the NCAA Division 2 tournament starts tonight - find out the 9 Brits suiting up on the men's side, and the 3 on the women's.

That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else.

With gratitude,

Sam
