3-Point Thursday #206
Sep 10, 2020 2:37 pm
Hey,
Good morning! The sun is shining, I've got a busy day ahead and feel like it's gonna be a good one!
This week's 3-pointer:
Was good fun to get Surrey Scorchers' Tayo Ogedengbe on the podcast this week, and get his perspective on all things BBL. A unique perspective as a Brit with longevity domestically being held up as the face of a franchise, it was good to hear his thoughts on various topics, the pros of making a base in the BBL and the league's progress over the years.
🌱 New beginnings: Thomson retirement & Ellis overseas-bound
Andy Thomson has announced his retirement after 14 years in the pros, and no less than 20 titles - only the 6th player to reach 20 in the BBL's history. End of an era - despite Hoopsfix being pipped to the post, well worth listening to his podcast with MVP's Mark Woods to discuss the decision! Meanwhile, Vanessa Ellis, one of the longest-tenured faces in the British women's game is heading to Austria with domestic champions UBI Graz, as Sheffield Hatters' future as a club remains uncertain.
💷 BBF gets UK Sport COVID-19 fund
In some positive news, the British Basketball Federation has been awarded up to £180,000 by UK Sport for the GB Senior teams for the upcoming November window to help lessen the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. Let's hope the games can take place!
That wraps up another drop, as always, hit reply with any thoughts, questions or anything else!
With gratitude,
Sam
