3-Point Thursday #199
Jul 23, 2020 6:54 pm
Hey,
Another week in the bag, and the sun is shining! Fast approaching newsletter #200 next week...time flies.
This week's 3-pointer:
In this week's show I got the chance to sit down with former GB and England international Chris Haslam one of a tiny handful of Brits currently employed by an NCAA Division 1 school so had some unique insights to bring. Haslam is always on top of British talent and has made a point of recruiting British players wherever possible. Aside from me having a major technical issue that meant we lost the first 35 minutes of recording and had to re-record, it was a thoroughly enjoyable conversation with another legend of the game (note the COVID-19 situation has changed drastically since recording).
Here's one that came out of left-field this week - Worthing Thunder's Alex Owumi being served a 6 week ban and a £1000 fine for betting on BBL Trophy games. He has tweeted his innocence, but conversely chose not to appeal...it's the first instance I know of within British basketball of betting offences and will be interesting to see how it pans out - he remains a part owner of the Thunder.
Daniel Edozie, Joe Junior Mvuezolo, Legend Robertin, the Van Oostrum brothers, Rob Marsden, Mo Soluade, and Jordan Whelan have now all signed, whilst London Lions are bolstering the defence for their BCL qualifying campaign with the addition of former NBA-er DeAndre Liggins.
That wraps up another week, as always, hit reply to let me know if you have any questions, feedback or anything else!
With gratitude,
Sam
P.S. A couple of old throwback TV features uploaded to IGTV this week - check out this ESPN piece on Ryan Richards at the 2010 NBA Combine and this 2008 Inside Sport feature on Luol Deng.
