I couldn't help but see God's hand in this

Hey, !

🍁 It's October and Fall is finally in the air! We just went on a field trip to learn about a teeny tiny little bug that caused a lot of havoc! In a little town called Enterprise, AL there is quite a fascination about the Boll Weevil because of what happened to the cotton farmers a little over 100 years ago. There are even over 20 themed Boll Weevil statues around the city! We only got a chance to see a few of them! Here are the kids with Ronald McWeevil!

The Boll Weevil decimated the farmer's cotton crops, which at the time was this region's main cash crop and if you could imagine, the damage this little booger of a bug caused nearly put the economy to a stop. But a few farmers were not going to throw in the towel and give up so they decided to learn more about the peanut and study how to grow them.

After their studies, they were confident they could grow peanuts and the rest is history. Enterprise/Dothan Alabama is now known as the peanut capital of the world because approximately half of the peanuts grown in the U.S. are grown in this region. Never did I think a little bug would be so fascinating!

Now, what does any of that have to do with God's providence? The entire time we were learning about the Boll Weevil, I couldn't help but see God's hand in this. God used a tiny bug to do something big. He turned a bad situation into a blessing. He gave a few men the wisdom and knowledge to learn something new which in turn helped turn a failing economy into a booming economy. This rural community now celebrates what a blessing a bug's destruction was for their town!

I am in awe of this piece of history. We like to teach our kids to look for God working in everything. His hand moves and is always in control of the good and the bad things that may happen in life. His providence isn't always clear to us in the beginning but it becomes clear the more we trust in Him! We may not always understand why God does what He does, but what we do understand is that God is good, just, and sovereign. His ways are SO much better than our own!
