Buongiorno , ☀️
Come stai? I hope you're doing well!
- 🥾What a month September was! The fall vibes kicked in, the temperature dropped, and the colours were already changing in the mountains.
- Spoiler: I will go back to Emilia Romagna in October for one of the best autumn hikes in Italy,In fact, I am set to leave for a 6-day hike to tell you all about leaves and colours, and I cannot wait! I hope the weather will assist (as RN, the situation in Emilia Romagna is not one of the best; floods everywhere)
- 🏔️ I spent early September in Emilia Romagna exploring parts of the Via Matildica del Volto Santo, a must-do hike that spans 14 stages from Mantova to Lucca. Check it out here.
- 🏖️ If the weather is good, September is also the perfect month to go to the beach and enjoy less crowded spots. So, I took a few days to go around the surroundings of Cinque Terre.
- 📖 I’m currently working on the Liguria Guide, which reminds me how much such a small region offers.
- 🍅 September also means cabbage season in the garden! So I have been making lots of easy salads with cabbage and anchovies… I am obsessed with them. As usual, I am sharing the recipes on my Instagram stories, so stay tuned if you don't want to miss them.
- 🚙 In September, I also started camperinzing Olivia. I have built (with the help of my dad) a structure that will make it easy to keep it more organised, and I am so happy about it! Now, I am searching for a fridge that will fit, and I will also need to set up the whole second battery. So, by next Spring, everything will be done!
- 🚶🏻♀️Since I'm often asked about solo hiking as a woman, I am sharing some tips (many apply to men, too!). My second advice is to start with a hike you have already been on, and others have largely hiked that.
- 🫶🏻This will give you an opportunity to feel safer, as you already know what to expect from the trail; then combine this with your own experience and master your local - more accessible trails before moving on to the harder ones.
- 🍂 What’s coming up in October? I’ve planned hikes in Sardinia, Emilia Romagna, and Piedmont. It has been so long since I have been to Sardinia, and I am thrilled about it!
Catch you outside,
Elena
