Happy March!

Meteorological winter officially ended on March 1, and the vernal equinox of March 20 is right around the corner. While I'm bummed that Old Man Winter snuck out the door for an apparent early exit, I am ready for plants to start popping up! This means it's time to dust off the bikes and do all that bike repair / maintenance that I told myself I'd do during the three months of winter, whoops!

Spring mag is on its way!

We're bringing the vernal stoke with our new spring issue, which we sent off to the printing press on March 3. This issue starts hitting shelves on March 14, so keep an eye out for a fresh copy at one of our 130+ distribution locations around the Mountain State.

With stories on citizen science, a historic climb at Seneca Rocks, the Cheat River Massacre-ence, spring ephemerals, the story behind the cover shot, and much more this is, without a doubt, our best issue yet.

And yes, that cover photo is real. Big thanks to WV-based photographer David S. Johnston for snapping this amazing image of slackliner Hai Thai walking a highline over the Gunsight Notch at Seneca Rocks. If you read Once in a Blue Moon in our winter 2020 issue, then you know the backstory to this shot. If you didn't, we heavily suggest you read it to be ready for the continuation of this dramatic story!

Fat & happy

We were proud sponsors of the 2022 Mtn State Fat Bike Champs held on February 27. Organized by our good friend Zach Adams, this race is always a great time. Even though there was no snow, a band of hardcore riders showed up to compete against each other on a tough course that wound all around the trails of the White Grass XC Touring Center. We tried to set up our EZ up and bring the good vibes, but the incessant winds of the open meadow by the lodge had other plans. The best part, of course, was the bacon aid station staffed by the good folks of the Blackwater Bicycle Association. We look forward to being part of this event again next year, hopefully with snow-packed trails!

1% for West Virginia

In the last newsletter, we proudly announced that we are officially a carbon-neutral business certified by Aclymate, a new platform that helps small businesses calculate and offset their carbon footprint. I'm now thrilled to announce our new 1% for West Virginia program, which will donate 1% of our annual advertising revenue to select environmental and social nonprofits based in West Virginia. Our program, which is based on the great organization 1% for the Planet, will keep 100% of our donations in the Mountain State. But becoming carbon-neutral and donating to good causes are just two pieces of the environmental puzzle - please respond directly to this email if you have any ideas about how we can further reduce our footprint and make our business more sustainable.
