Ski season is in full swing

I sincerely hope you and yours have been enjoying this snowy January. I know we sure have - I've got the jelly legs to prove it. This is the time of year when we focus 100% of our efforts on balancing skiing and work. Most other things fall to the wayside - our house is filthy and our fridge is empty, but our hearts are full and our faces are permanently frozen into powder-eating grins. As the saying goes: If you choose not to find joy in snow, you will have less joy in your life but the same amount of snow. So, get out there and enjoy this most fleeting of seasons!

Look ma, we're on the radio!

imageNikki and I are honored to be featured guests on the Best Virginia Podcast. Host and West Virginia native Jordan Mitchell does this solo project to document various slices of life, history, and culture in West Virginia. In part one of our two-part interview, we discuss the history of the magazine, our recent growth, and some pertinent outdoor recreation issues being faced these days throughout West Virginia. Check out the episode HERE!

Woof Arted? 🐕‍🦺 photo contest!

Yes, that's the terribly punny name I came up with for our new dog photo contest. I simply couldn't resist as dog photos, of course, are an art form. Send in your best pup photo(s) for a chance to win some HO swag! Send an email to dylan@highland-outdoors.com with "HO Dog Photo Contest" in the subject line and attach pics of your furry friend. An individual entrant can submit up to three photos - Nikki and I will choose the top three overall photos and announce the winners here in our Feb 14 email newsletter to show some puppy love on Valentine's Day. Good luck!

Save 20% on all HO merchandise

Our merch sale is still going on. If you put an item in the cart but forget to check out, now is the time! Use code NATHANIEL20 at checkout to save 20% off your total merchandise order. Why NATHANIEL20? Because at 2,739 feet, Nathaniel Mountain, located in Hampshire County, is the twentieth-highest peak in West Virginia, of course!

It's cold these days, and you probably need a soft hoodie to wear by the fire. Good news - we've got 'em!

Camping with Ghosts

Frequent HO contributor, consummate adventurer, and history buff Matt Kearns visited several Civil War battle sites the authentic way - by camping how the soldiers did in the harsh winter of 1861.

Go Tele it on the Mountainimage

This piece is my ode to the timeless and artful niche sport of telemark skiing. We are fortunately to have a thriving telemark scene here in West Virginia. This piece also features a rockstar cast of amazing ski photographers. Tele till yer' smelly!
