Happy leaf peepin' season ππ
Howdy, friends! It's been quite a while since our last edition, and I'm sure you've been sitting at your desk anxiously awaiting the next newsletter. Actually, I'm pretty sure none of you really cared, because in the modern era of constant content marketing and electronic bombardment, who really wants another email to read, right? The answer, of course, is YOU, valued reader!
Mixed messaging and intentional sarcasm aside, I'm happy to be back in the saddle after a superb 18-day jaunt through British Columbia and Washington State. Don't worry, I'll send some photos of that trip in the middle of the November doldrumsβa barren month when bland photography of our grayish and leafless landscapes just doesn't make the cut.
I'd like to kick off this one with some photos from an evening session in Blackwater Falls State Park. It's been a most spectacular fall up here in the Tucker County highlands. The perfect storm of dry weather, crisp nights, and calm winds allowed the region's diverse forests to change as one and show their true colors for several weeks. If you want to find out some of the fascinating science about fall foliage, check out this article Nikki wrote back in our Fall 2019 issue!
Elakala Falls #1. I nabbed the mesmerizing swirl by doing a 30-second exposure.
The long cascades of Pendleton Creek Falls, shot from the south rim of Blackwater Canyon with a telephoto lens.
The Main Show: Blackwater Falls clothed in all her autumnal glory.
The rocky promontory of Pase Point. Behind is the rugged drainage of the North Fork of the Blackwater.
A faint hint of the sunset hangs over the pitch-black Blackwater River. My favorite part of this image is the swirly eddy below the rock in the foreground.

Interested in prints?
Time for some shameless self-promotion. In addition to the magazine, I'm also working on making photography a more significant portion of my business portfolio. I sell beautiful metal and canvas fine-art prints of my photography. If you're interested in prints of any of these or other images, please send me a message and I'll work with you directly to find a piece that fits your wall and budget: dylan@highland-outdoors.com. Thanks in advance for supporting local art!

Did you know digital versions of all our print magazines are available for free online?
That's right, and it's been that way for a while, because we believe the outdoors is for everyone. We upload digitized versions of all our print mags to the satisfyingly interactive Issuu platform. And while we are big proponents of reading a physical magazine, this allows us to share our beautifully designed publication with readers all over the world who can't receive a print copy. It also gets our highly valued print advertisers some free digital exposure!
This is just a screenshot of the interactive reader (this program won't let me embed the interactive reader in our newsletter π).
To check out the interactive version of our Fall 2022 mag along with every other issue dating back to Spring 2019, visit the Issues page on our website!

Woohoo! We've surpassed a major milestone of 300 subscribers. It's only fitting that our official subscriber tally of 304 is also West Virginia's legendary area code.
Subscribing is the best way to support Highland Outdoors. If you love the mag and want it to continue, please consider joining our subscribers (thank you!) to get each issue delivered right to your doorβand to continue reading it in the future.

Have you seen this yet?
Nothing makes me happier than reaching out to a friend about writing a story, and for them to send in some gold. Our pal Brooke Andrew did just that on this great piece about fishing, which, as she says, really isn't about fishing at all.

Stay tuned for our next installment in early November, which will feature... something? I spose you'll just have to check in to find out π
Enjoy, and thanks for reading #westvirginiasoutdoormagazine!
