UKRI Creating Opportunities: Rethinking Economic (In)Activity
Funding supports projects focused on promoting sustainable economic activity in areas with high rates of ill-health, disability, and informal care in the UK.
You must be based at a UK research organisation eligible for UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding. We welcome proposals that include team members and project partners from outside academia.
The full economic cost (FEC) of your project can be up to £1,200,000. UKRI will fund 80% of the FEC. Funding is for a single award.

What the Programme Offers:

International Women’s Day: Barclays Eagle Labs

Funding for cultural organisations
Hundreds of arts venues, museums, libraries and heritage buildings will receive a share of funding worth more than £270 million. The funding will be provided under the Government's Arts Everywhere Fund and will be awarded to organisations in urgent need of financial support to keep them up and running.

Plans to simplify government buying rules
The Government has announced plans to simplify government buying processes to make it easier for small businesses to win contracts. Under the plans, local authorities will be able to reserve contracts for small businesses to help boost local economies. They will also consult on introducing a requirement for large contracting authorities to publish their three-year targets for small business and social enterprise spend.

Green Man fund
Supporting positive change in the local community. Whether that’s fundraising for those affected by Storm Dennis in 2020, donating money to Local Food Banks in response to the cost of living crisis, supporting sports and hobbyist clubs, local outdoor community gatherings, developing Cwmdu Village Hall, supporting local Schools and sourcing equipment to help people with disabilities.
Aim is to ‘spread the good stuff,’ and bring people together. Green Man festival and Green Man Trust collectively have raised over £500K for community projects over the years.
Grants available range from £500 to £2,000.

Investor partnerships: digital technologies, North East
UK registered small or medium sized business can apply for grant funding for projects that grow their innovation activities in the digital technologies cluster in North East England, alongside private investment from selected investor partners.

Community Energy Projects
Ofgem Energy Redress Scheme’s Just Transition Fund was first launched in October 2024. £2 million available to charities and community energy groups across England, Scotland and Wales to develop renewable energy projects that benefit those most in need.
The scheme aims to build the capacity of the community energy sector and deliver impactful renewable energy projects. It seeks to demonstrate how a just transition to net zero can benefit everyone. Grants of between £20,000 and £250,000 are available for individual projects.
Eligibility:
· Registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), Community Benefit Societies and Cooperative Societies in England, Scotland and Wales registered with the Energy Redress Scheme and have passed the due diligence process.
· Organisations that have not yet registered with the scheme must do so 10 working days before the relevant fund closes to allow time for eligibility checks to take place.

Wesleyan Community Grants
For organisations with income under £500k based in the West Midlands, their 2025 Community Grants are open until 7 Mar. Grants from £2,000 to 10,000 for: Climate Action, Quality Education, Reducing Inequalities, and Gender Equality and Good Health and Wellbeing. When you read the guidelines, these are wide ranging, including autism, disability, mental health, older people, dementia, domestic abuse, employment, and non binary and transgender.
For Wales, South West, South East, London, applications open 10 Mar to 21 Apr.

Launchpad: net zero industry, Southwest Wales
UK registered businesses can apply for a share of up to £2.9 million for business led projects that grow their innovation activities in the net zero industrial cluster in Southwest Wales. This funding is from Innovate UK.

Internet Freedom Fund
Provided by the US-based Open Technology Fund, offers financial awards to individuals and organisations to support innovative internet freedom projects, including technology development, research, digital security projects, and convenings.
The funding is intended to support projects that develop, research or implement tools enabling users - such as journalists, human rights defenders, activists and the general public - to bypass internet censorship, communicate securely, or access blocked information. It also aims to back applied research efforts that investigate the causes and locations of censorship, improve internet freedom tools, analyse targeted content, or assess threats to internet freedom in specific regions.

· Individuals or organisations (for-profit or nonprofit) of all ages irrespective of nationality, creed or sex are eligible to apply.

Lloyds Bank Foundation’s Local Collaboration Programme
This programme, which offers flexible funding over two years and development support, aims to help strengthen collaborations and build capabilities and confidence to achieve change within a local or regional area.
The funding is for influencing work that aligns with at least one of the following themes:
Making the social security system work better for those facing the greatest challenges.
Making sure people facing complex issues have access to suitable accommodation.
Improving support and services for asylum seekers and refugees.
There is particular interest in work that addresses inequalities within these three themes.
Priority will be given to applications that show that lived experience is centred in the collaboration’s design and delivery.
Grants of £100,000 over two years are available. Collaborations will also have the opportunity to extend the funding by a further year and an additional £50,000. It is expected that around 15 grants will be made.

· Local collaborations or partnerships led by charities,
· CIOs registered with the Charity Commission, who have an annual income of between £25,000 and £1 million,
· Operate mainly in England and Wales.

· Improve the appropriateness of accommodation: Bristol, Liverpool, London (specifically where focus is on the accommodation needs of women experiencing domestic abuse).
· Increase the availability of accommodation - Greater Manchester and Leeds.
· Increase the availability of support for people facing crisis/destitution - Leicester and Leicestershire, Lewes District, Middlesbrough, The Wirral, Wrexham and York.
· Improve the quality and appropriateness of employment support - London Borough of Lambeth.
· Improve the appropriateness of support for asylum seekers and refugees - Gateshead and Greater Manchester.
· Improve access to legal support for asylum seekers and refugees - Sheffield.

Birmingham City Council Resettlement Grant for 2025.
Designed to support projects that primarily benefit individuals and families who have arrived through organised Resettlement programmes, with the potential to also engage other sanctuary seekers, migrants, and the wider local community.
The available grants: Up to £15,000, up to £50,000, up to £100,000
The funding will support projects for 6, 12, 18, or 24 months, with potential extensions based on evidence and ongoing need.
Applicants should ensure that their proposals demonstrate how they will engage and ensure the active participation of resettled Afghan and/or Syrian refugees. The strategic priorities for this funding focus on: Family, Learning, Wellness, and Community. Proposals may also be submitted under the "Unspecified" category, defined by the proposing organisation in consultation with the beneficiary group.

Berkeley Foundation’s Resilience Fund
Grants of up to £90,000 over three years are available for small to medium-sized charities and CICs operating in Greater London, Bath and North East Somerset, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire, West Sussex, and the City of Birmingham, to invest in organisational development and build resilience for the future.
The Resilience Fund will support up to six organisations to support work across the following resilience priorities:
· Developing a clear mission, operationalised through strong strategic planning.
· Financial sustainability.
· Effective leadership.
· People and culture.
In 2025, the focus will be given to organisations focused on building leadership skills in young people, empowering them to positively impact their own lives and the communities in which they live. Groups should be working with young people affected by racist or Islamophobic violence. Priority will be given to organisations that are led by young people aged between 18 and 30.

Community Inspiration Awards 2025
The awards ceremony will take place in Birmingham on Friday 26th September 2025 where a panel of esteemed judges will announce the finalists and winners. Like previous years, awards will be presented by various dignitaries, including Chief Officers from public sector organisations, council leaders and Members of Parliament.

Variety Club - Equipment Grants
Grants are available for specialist equipment for the direct use of children up to the age of 18 years who are sick, disabled or disadvantaged and are resident in the UK.
The funding is intended to support organisations which work with sick, disabled or disadvantaged children up to and including the age of 18 years. There is particular interest in providing funding for specialist equipment for direct use by children.

Grants are awarded for specialist disability equipment that is not available through statutory services and which will be of clear direct benefit to a child or children with a disability/disabilities and/or with special needs.

Mayor of London Community Fund
Nearly £1m to "bring communities together" for the mayor's Community Weekend 12 to 14 Sep, which will include events like barbecues and picnics, arts and cultural events and creative workshops. The campaign includes support for councils and community organisations to promote social cohesion – through the Community Recovery Fund and the Mayor's Community Weekend funding programme. The weekend fund has grants of £500 to £2,000.

Energy Resilience Fund
A mixture of grant and loan funding is available to support community organisations and social enterprises in England to install energy saving measures or technology and purchase energy efficient or environmentally friendly vehicles or equipment.
The Energy Resilience Fund provides eligible charities and social enterprises in England with funding of £25,000 to £250,000 is available via a blend of grants (40%) and loans (60%).
They may need this support for many different reasons, for example reduced carbon emissions, energy cost savings, upgrading energy efficiency ratings to meet future regulations, increased use or comfort of buildings, replacing older vehicles and equipment with modern energy efficient versions.

Flexible Finance for England’s Black and Racially Minoritised Led Charities/Social Enterprises
The Fund recently received a £2 million boost from Access-the Foundation for Social Investment, enabling it to support more Black and Racially Minority led charities and social enterprises who are working to improve people’s lives or the environment they live in.
Black and Racially Minoritised-led, legally constituted registered charities or social enterprises operating for at least two years with a minimum turnover of £200,000 in the last financial year may apply for a blended loan and grant:
· Loans are £50,000 to £1.5 million with a term of one to six years.
· Unrestricted grants of £50,000 to £200,000 (ranges from 50% to 100% of the loan amount capped at £200,000).
Funding can be used for anything that benefits the community the organisation operates in. It is an unrestricted fund, so, for example, the funding could be used to take on more staff, undertake building work or increase capacity through new projects.
The Black and Racially Minoritised grouping covers everyone outside the category ‘White British’. This includes people identifying as Asian / Asian British; Black / African / Caribbean / Black British; White Irish or Gypsy, Traveller or Irish Traveller; mixed or multiple ethnic groups; Arab or Latinx; or any other ‘non-White’ British category.
Groups can receive pre and post application support from the Ubele Initiative and Create Equity, including support writing the application and working with organisations to gather information needed before Investment Committee.

Tackling health inequalities: the West Yorkshire Mayor’s big ideas challenge
A £1 million challenge funded by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority to accelerate innovative solutions, products, or services to overcome health inequalities among local communities. It's for West Yorkshire SMEs to accelerate their solutions by providing: Twenty £20,000 development grants for selected finalists and three £100,000 final awards for continued development and commercialisation of solutions.

IT4Good Grants Programme
Grants of up to £15,000 are available or educational establishments and constituted not-for-profit organisations across the UK to support IT projects and activities.
The WCIT Charity will support activities within the themes of education, inclusion, IT for charities, and understanding of IT, such as the development and delivery of new services, solutions, training, apps, analytics, AI, robotics, or accessibility features/hardware.
Projects that are more likely to be funded include:
· Projects where WCIT is a material or sole funder.
· Projects where WCIT is the sole funder of the IT component of a larger project.
· Organisations that could benefit from pro-bono support.
Proposals should demonstrate an innovative use of IT, be scalable for wider replication, and be sustainable over time. Grants of over £15,000 may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
Applications are typically considered four committee meetings per year.

The Communities Innovating Yorkshire Fund
The Yorkshire Policy Innovation Partnership (YPIP) is a UKRI-funded project operating in Yorkshire and The Humber, covering the 4 Mayoral Combined Authority areas of York and North Yorkshire, Hull and East Riding, South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
Themes – inclusive economy, creative industries and climate. Seedcorn funds of up to £10k for small/pilot projects, to be inclusive of smaller, grassroots initiatives. The purpose of the seedcorn round is to enable groups without prior experience of grant applications to have the opportunity to ‘learn by doing’. Larger project funds of up to £50k for developing existing/more established ideas.

Created in 1975 by Roland Penrose and Lee Miller with a view to developing and improving the knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the fine arts in the United Kingdom.
The Trust aims to make it possible for artists and those presenting their work to undertake and complete projects when frustrated by lack of funds. It is committed to helping artists and art institutions and galleries that depart from the routine and signal new, distinct and imaginative sets of possibilities.

Increase in demand for finance to start a retail business
Data from Start Up Loans has revealed that demand for its loans from retail businesses increased by 22% in December 2024. This is despite Office for National Statistics figures showing that retail sales fell in the same month. Demand for finance to start a retail business was 6% of the total volume of Start Up Loans awarded in 2024.

Bidding opens for AI Growth Zones
The Government has opened the bidding process for AI Growth Zones. Local and regional authorities across the UK are being encouraged to submit proposals to become dedicated centres for AI infrastructure development. The Government will put particular focus on deindustrialised areas, including sites with existing access to power or suitable to establish major energy infrastructure.

Direct marketing compliance tool
The ICO has launched a free online tool to help organisations ensure that their direct marketing activities comply with UK privacy and data protection law. The direct marketing advice generator will provide small organisations with reliable compliance advice tailored to their own direct marketing activities. The tool covers email, SMS, direct mail, social media and telemarketing.

UK freelancer day rates increase
The average day rate charged by freelancers has increased due to companies relying more on contract workers to fill critical skills gaps. Average day rates increased by 3% year-on-year to £390. Strategy professionals commanded the highest rates at £520 per day, followed by market research (£491) and data (£469).

The Wingate Foundation is currently accepting funding applications from UK registered charities which seek to:

Grow Wild Youth Grants
Offering grants of £500 to young people (aged 16 to 25 years) across the UK to deliver a creative project that celebrates why UK native plants and/or fungi are so special.
The project should be original and exciting and focus on UK native plants and/or fungi. Projects need to engage at least 100 other people (either in person or online). The grant be used to pay for anything to support the project, such as equipment, materials, training, resources, or expert help. Projects can start in May but must be completed by the end of October 2025.
Applications will be accepted from young people aged 16 to 25 years old who live in the UK and who can find a supporting organisation, such as a school, university, youth club or a local community group, to help them deliver the project.

The Arts Society
Grants of up to £2,000 are available for UK-registered charities with an annual turnover of less than £3 million to deliver projects across all aspects of the arts, crafts, and heritage and support local and regional art museums and organisations.

· Projects that support a wide range of activities to introduce people of all ages and backgrounds to artistic experiences and practice,.
· Support for regional museums, galleries, and arts organisations, such as:

Help People Get Outdoors and Experience the Natural World
The Alpkit Foundation, a not-for-profit independent charity, was set up by the British outdoor retailer Alpkit in 2015. It makes small awards that support grass roots, direct action projects where a positive difference can be made to remove the barriers in getting outdoors and experience the benefits of time spent outdoors.
Community groups, schools and organisations based and working within the UK can apply for grants of between £50 and £500 to support:
· Diversity and inclusion projects that engage individual and groups from a diverse range of backgrounds.
· Environmental projects that seek to support, conserve, or generate understanding of our environment and wild places.
· Health projects enabling people to gain physical and mental wellbeing from the Great Outdoors.
· Education projects such as First Aid, D of E, Forest Schools and Mountain Leader.
Participation projects that get more people experiencing the Great Outdoors.
It is recommended that groups apply at least three months before the start of their project so that the trustees have time to consider the application at their next meeting.

Funding for Rural Community and Education Projects (UK)
Charities supporting rural development, particularly young people's education and poverty relief within rural areas, can apply for funding through the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust. The funding focuses on supporting larger initiatives that would significantly impact rural communities.
Grants available are for £1,000 - 50,000. Larger grants are used to support organisations that significantly impact rural communities nationally. Projects funded in the past have ranged from City farms, Federations of Young Farmers Clubs and farming Community Networks. The next closing date for applications is the 23rd May 2025.

Suez Communities Fund
Suez Communities Trust offering grants of between £3,000 and £50,000 for constituted not-for-profit groups across England to deliver projects that make improvements to local facilities, historic buildings and structures, sport and recreation facilities communities in qualifying SUEZ Recycling and Recovery sites.
Fund will support capital improvement works to public amenity projects for community use, such as:
· Village hall improvements.
· Nature reserves and conservation.
· Village greens.
· Community centres.
· Public playgrounds.
· Cycle paths.
· Sports fields and facilities.
· Country parks.
· Historic buildings, structures, or sites.
Public amenities must be open to the public for a minimum of four evenings a week, two days a week, or 104 days a year. Improvements to places of religious worship will only be considered if they are Grade I designated. Projects to improve other historic buildings, structures, or sites must be Grade I, II, or II*, or have another significant heritage designation such as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
There is a two-stage application process. Groups must first submit an online Expression of Interest before being invited to submit a full application. There are typically four funding rounds each year.

Music Export Growth Scheme
