Have you ever heard a preacher preach a passage about the Old Testament Israelites, who were not converted, in all their wickedness, their wanton sexual activity, worshiping images and nose-thumbing at God . . .

. . . and then apply that passage to those under the New Covenant who really do love the Lord Jesus Christ?

I’m guessing you have.

If you know me, you know that one of my biggest focuses when I untwist Scriptures is “Who was the author speaking to and about?” We need to interpret all of Scripture through that most basic lens.

It can make such a huge difference in our understanding of both God and ourselves that some of my readers have told me my Untwisting Scriptures work is “mind blowing.”

But especially in the prophets and in the epistles, that writer was very often writing to someone super specific. It was written for them.

This principle can be boiled down to: “Keep the target audience in mind.”

Those careful principles I use in my Untwisting Scriptures work I also apply to my trauma-informed book coaching work.
