Are you "enough"?

Hi ~
When I listen to those who experienced abuse, I often hear things like this about their past experiences:
“I was never enough. Except for when I was too much.”
It’s really confusing, isn’t it?
Now I often see graphics that say, “You are enough.” It’s trying to counteract those old thought patterns, of course.
But I tend to want to step back from any saying and analyze it from the bigger perspective.
And the first question I ask when I see either of these statements . . .
· “I was never enough.” OR “I am enough.”
My first question is
“Enough for what?”
What’s the context?
See, here’s an example.
Let’s say I serve a heaping dinner plate at one of those good old-fashioned church pot lucks (or “pot providence,” depending on your background—hope I didn’t trigger you there).
Is it enough?
Well, it depends on the context.
For my two-year-old granddaughter, it would be too much.
For a 20-year-old male construction worker, it wouldn’t be sufficient.
It all depends on the context.
So now, let’s ask a similar question to give us some context for whether or not you’re “enough.”
Are you enough for the Lord to receive you as you are?
The answer is a resounding and joyful YES. He wants you to empty your hands of self-effort and come to Him exactly as you are. He delights in helping us become the complete and whole persons He designed us to be, as we put our faith in Him.
Context.
How about this one:
Are you enough to do the big job in front of you?
Well, that depends. Maybe you need some help, and there is absolutely no shame in that. He has called us to help each other, after all.
What if God has called you to write a nonfiction book from the life lessons He’s taught you?
You’re an expert in your own life, of course. But you may need some help in some facets of the book organizing, researching, writing, editing, publishing, and marketing process.
You may need some help overcoming some of those old thought patterns, what I call “clearing the land.”
No shame. As a trauma-informed book coach, I understand about these things.
It’s okay to “not be enough” for that big job and ask for help from someone who understands both trauma and books.
So I’m excited to let you know about an offer I have coming up.
On November 14 and then again on November 15, I’ll be offering a free Live training, "That Book God Called You to Write: Get it from Your Bucket List to Your Reader’s Night Stand."
Yes, I’ll be talking about how that sense of being “not enough”—even how I felt it with my Untwisting Scriptures series.
And several other key insights.
I’ll also be offering another something there that I’m excited about.
The training is free, and if you register, you’ll get the recording.
I hope to see you there!
Knowing with you that together, we’re “enough” to do our work for the Kingdom, but we might need some help,
Rebecca
P.S. If you’d rather not receive any more emails that mention writing your book, just reply “no” to this email, and I’ll take care of that. You’ll still be subscribed to Here’s the Joy.
P.P.S. Do you know someone who loves the Lord Jesus who might be interested in getting help writing their book? Please pass this information along!
