What a lovely surprise

Hi ~

Back in 2014, fairly new in the world of abuse, I was helping Dale Ingraham on his book Tear Down This Wall of Silence: Dealing with Sexual Abuse in Our Churches.

That was when I became aware of the work of Steven and Celestia Tracy and the 2005 book Mending the Soul: Understanding and Healing Abuse. (That's the old edition linked there.) Dale quoted from that book.

So I got it and read it. Then in 2016 I also quoted from it, in my first Untwisting Scriptures book.

As far as Steve was aware, his was the first book from an evangelical perspective to explain and underscore the need to address abuse in the church. That meant he and his wife Celestia were pioneers. I looked up to them and aspired to be like them.

So . . . how surprising was it for me to find out this past spring that Steve Tracy--THE Steve Tracy--is one of my subscribers here at Here's the Joy. He wrote to ask me to review his second edition for him. (Here is the second edition, which is the one you want to look at now.)

So when it arrived, I asked my husband to snap a picture of me holding the book, and I posted it on Facebook. A bit of fan-girling there, I suppose.

And then . . . Steve became my very first person to interview over video. I really enjoyed it.

And all that super long intro is to tell you that . . . .

. . . you can watch that interview here.

(It's only the second video I've ever posted on YouTube. But I hope you enjoy it and benefit from it.)

If you're not aware of the work of Steve and Celestia Tracy, it's time!

All my best,

Rebecca

By the way, Steve said in this interview that he's working on a new book, and in it he'll be quoting my work several times. That was another surprise to me, and a good one. We all need those occasionally!
